A cornucopia of tales in the Shropshire Star this week! And these don't include the car (a 21-reg Kia, I think) that crashed through a roundabout in Shrewsbury and came to rest on the shared path (spotted by my son and a colleague's mate).

3pm on Friday afternoon - getting them in early - a driver escapes injury after a Toyota Aygo hits a telegraph pole near Shifnal [link]

Man detained after a stolen car crashes into two other vehicles in Wellington on Saturday morning. [link]

The driver of a 44-tonne lorry that crashed through Newport roundabout at 1.50am on Saturday had 'complained of chest pain' [link]

At around 11.30am on Saturday morning a car crashed into a bus stop, damaging another vehicle [link]

Emergency services were called after car crashes into a tree in Sutton Maddock, Telford at about 8pm on Sunday [link]

Around 2.30pm on Sunday a car ended up on its side in the village of Myddle, north of Shrewsbury. No mention of any other vehicle being involved [link]

3 people airlifted to hospital after a collision on the A458 Shrewsbury to Welshpool road at at 11am on Tuesday [link]

So much for Shropshire being a sleepy rural county!!

Cars given go faster decals

The council put up a tiny "no parking" sign, then gave all the parked cars tickets....

Must be spring, more of these cars gambolling about.  This just by me this afternoon.  30mph limit on the road (it's hardly a "main road" either), at this point it's straight with clear sight lines.

Hope all OK - probably too soon to have reached the news / not at all unusual...

Annual invasion of cockchafers has begun across the UK

People report the loud bugs flying round their homes and 'whacking' them in the face

One to look out for here. In other news, it's now warm enough for me to break out the ill-fitting cycling shorts.

Boy, 12, suffers leg injury after being hit by car on a pedal bike

Oh no, cars are now riding bikes!

First of all, I hope the boy is ok. I am in no way commenting on the actual collision, I am only commenting on the headline (which looks to have been changed on the actual page, so the screenshot is from Google).

More stories of road hooliganism and van-dalism published today (Friday) by the Shropshire Star:

  • 1 casualty airlifted to hospital after van crashes into 3 pedestrians in Oswestry at 1.25pm (see pic). The other 2 were 'not seriously injured'.
  • Telford driver with 'no licence and no seatbelt' with children in car this afternoon. Vehicle seized.
  • Bridgnorth Chamber of Commerce says the town is losing "tens of millions" in revenue a year because there aren't enough parking spaces on the main street. Bullshit IMO.
  • Motorcyclist injured in 3pm crash with a van on the A49 near Shrewsbury.
  • A mini-bus crashed into barriers in a 2-vehicle collision on the A5 near Oswestry at around 2pm.
  • Selfish parents parking on zig-zags outside a primary school near Chirk.

Some people just can't make their minds up.  Complain about people buying cars designed for off-road capabilities and only driving them on the road; and then complain when they take them off road.

"...a number of fans on social media said they should have been exempt to normal parking rules"

I'd love to see how they seek to justify that.

Massive swing to the Lib Dems - go cry some more, Mr Driver.

Reading that article and the language he uses, I'd wager that "Roger Whitmore, part of local action group 70percent" is also opposed to vaccines and is seriously thinking about voting for the Reclaim Party (Lawrence Fox's bunch of nutters concerned citizens).

Ah, the joys of "local" news.  A story published on Bristol Live about something that happened in Worksop...

I never imagined the Archbish driving around in a Golf.  Had always assumed he'd have something bigger and more flash, and driven by someone else.

Jeez, wasn't expecting that...kind of expected her to move just in time or something along them lines, pardon the pun.

Those old cars are great though - I love seeing unusual vehicles like that driving around as it's such a change from the monoculture of modern cars.

I can only comment like this because I know nothing about the incident: this is the lorry driver building himself an excuse 'because chest pain has to be taken seriously and may have been the cause of the driver failure', whereas it's really because he was eating/ drinking/ smoking/ on the phone/ too experienced to need to bother paying attention etc.

Those links don't work for me, but I've found the article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-65633762

The reporter's name is Caroline Lowbridge - I wonder if she specialises in these topics?
