Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

The calm after the storm. Had it this morning, battered by wind and rain descending the Beacon and pushing Northwards on. As the gale dropped, the flapping stopped. And then, there was silence and sunshine. Made it all the more worthwhile. Soaked to the skin, mind, when I got to work.
Dark mornings & misty sunrises
Crispy, chilly air, mists, leafs on fire, again only real cyclists on the road without inline skaters all over the cycling paths..
Bright Blue skies, with just a hint of chill in the air - makes me feel so alive on the bike
Pulling on my Goretex winter riding shoes and anticipating toasty toes.
The wind on your back as you get pushed along at break neck speed.
Doing the same rides as summer and not feeling overheated at the end of the ride. The red and yellow autumn colours of the bracken on the hills and the trees in the valleys.
Being the last person on the club run still in shorts and feeling proper hard as a result
Warm wind. Tailwind, that is.
The best thing about riding in autumn is that convincing feeling that this if going to be your best winter of training yet and that it will lead to the best road season yet next year. The feeling quite often subsides when winter sets in.
My favourite thing about cycling in autumn is that it is cycling! Just love it!
Cooler temperatures, beautiful autumn colours. Perfect time for cycling.
getting home in one piece
The light and the colours of the leaves- and not sweating buckets!
isnt it all about coming up with the appropriate excuse for the time of year why I cant do yard work and rake leaves in so I can get a cool weather ride in. No, dear, I can rake leaves, because the wind will just blow it right back on the lawn! I will take a ride and maybe the wind will die down by the time I get back!
The nice chill on your legs as you set off, followed by the tingle in your fingers as they freeze.
Fresh crisp sunny mornings and the excuse to buy new kit!
Thank you in advance
Cycling cafés!!!
Racing the rain home
Yes please !
The crisp fresh morning air
There is no such thing as bad weather, only a poor choice of clothing - get it right and get on your bike!!!!
The crisp fresh air when you set off...but not so cold that you need loads of layers
The multicoloured leaves on the trees and the sound of slick tires on a damp surface, on a bike with mudguards and discs - lovely
The sunrise over the cycle track
The "surprise" season - sun, rain, heat, cold, wind, calm - all experienced through the joy of riding a bike.
Just finally being out there after waiting for bike and health to let me.
Sense of smugness
Because it's the best of Summer and Winter rolled into one!
