John Kerry returns to conquer Col de la Colombiere where he broke his leg last year

US Secretary of State had unfinished business with climb after last year’s accident

US Secretary of State John Kerry has finished the climb of the Col de Colombiere where he crashed last year, breaking his leg.

His first attempt at the ascent in France’s Haute-Savoie department was in May last year as he took a rest from nuclear talks regarding Iran in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The 71-year-old, who was being followed by a motorcade that included paramedics and a doctor, was taken to hospital in Geneva for treatment.

Back in the Swiss city last week – this time for discussions about the situation in Syria – Kerry returned to the climb with which he had unfinished business.

According to a report on Chamonet.com, Kerry completed the ascent, accompanied this time by French police, who closed the road, with helicopters also following his progress.

That gave him a Tour de France-style experience denied to most, but was perhaps understandable given his position and the reason he was in the Alps in the first place.
