Body found after coastal search for missing cyclist in Cornwall

German national was reported missing after going for a bike ride on Saturday

A body has been found during a major search and rescue operation in Cornwall after a cyclist was reported missing yesterday.

The man, a 53-year-old German tourist, was last seen at 3pm on Saturday afternoon when he set off to cycle along the Cornish coast between Newlyn and Sennen Cove, reports Cornwall Live.

The search involved two lifeboats from Sennen and two from Penlee, a coastguard helicopter and cliff rescue teams based in Penzance and Land’s End.

Prior to the body being found, Sennen RNLI press officer Brian Simpson said: " They are searching for a 53-year-old German male who went out cycling yesterday afternoon and was last seen as he set off at 3pm.

“They've been asked to do a shoreline search along the cliffs from Sennen Cove around to Newlyn.”

A subsequent post on the Penlee Lifeboat website said: “Sadly body recovered by Sennen Cove Lifeboat.”
