Pro Bikes: Simon and Adam Yates get custom Scott Addict race bikes for Vuelta a Espana

Check out the custom painted Scott Addicts the Yates brothers are racing in the Vuelta

Custom painted race bikes are all but mandatory for team leaders - check out Alberto Contador’s swish Trek Emonda SLR here - but Scott Bicycles has produced two custom bikes for twin brothers Simon and Adam Yates of the Orica-Scott team for their assault on the Vuelta a Espana general classification.

The two bikes are mirror reflections of each other, with nearly identical black and white designs but flipped on each bike, split down the middle. It’s a rather neat idea and subtly executed. As well as opposite black and white panels and logos on the frame and fork, the components are also flipped, with a white saddle and black bar tape on Adam’s bike, and black saddle and split white and black tape on Simon’s bike. It won’t make picking the two apart on the television coverage any easier though.

Underneath the custom paint finish is a stock Addict race bike that the twins have each preferred over the aero Foil, preferring the sub-800g frame and low overall build to any aero advantage. They run Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupsets with Dura-Ace C40 tubular wheels shod with 25mm wide Continental Competition tyres. Syncros, a component brand owned by Scott, supplies the handlebar, stem, seatpost and saddle.

And here’s a little video Scott has put together about the creation of the bikes.
