Near Miss of the Day 205: Pushy bus driver in pointless overtake

Today’s video in our Near Miss of the Day feature is one of our occasional forays abroad – and shows that UK bus drivers don’t have a monopoly when it comes to inconsiderate driving around cyclists.

It was filmed by Norway-based Scot, Stuart Baillie, who lives in Stavanger, and shows a bus driver overtaking him, then pulling in before the rear of the vehicle is fully past him.

It’s something we see all to often in this series when it comes to long vehicles – and there’s another familiar aspect to this one too as Stuart catches up with the bus at its next stop, showing how unnecessary the driver’s overtaking manoeuvre that put the cyclist in danger was.

Over the years road.cc has reported on literally hundreds of close passes and near misses involving badly driven vehicles from every corner of the country – so many, in fact, that we’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into a regular feature on the site. One day hopefully we will run out of close passes and near misses to report on, but until that happy day arrives, Near Miss of the Day will keep rolling on.
