Team Sky Rainforest Rescue auction raises £15,000

Brad's Pinarello not surprisingly the star of the show...

Team Sky's limited edition Rainforest Rescue kit has gone under the hammer on new bike auction site Going Going Bike, and has raised over £15,000 for the project which is running in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund. Not surprisingly, Bradley Wiggins' Pinarello Dogma was the star of the show, making £11,600 of the total.

Bidding was so intense at the end of the auction that hammer time (stop... ed) had to be pushed back so that everyone could get their bids in. In total there were over 600 bids for the bike and the limited edition green Rainforest Rescue kit on offer. Going Going Bike have waived all auction charges, so 100% of the money will be going to the project which aims to raise £4 million to save 1 billion trees from logging as pressure on rainforest land increases. Sky are matching all donations pound for pound up to the £4m target.

Andrew Nethercot, Directeur Sportif at Going Going Bike said “it is great that Team Sky decided to auction Bradley Wiggins’ bike and the other Rainforest Rescue kit on an auction site dedicated to cycling. For me, it’s another example of how Sky is supporting cycling in the UK. We are delighted to have helped them raise so much money for the cause and reach out to passionate cyclists in the UK.”
