Welsh cycling fest dates announced

Hundreds expected for Cambrian mountains event

Cyclists of all standards are being welcomed to the Welsh Festival of Cycling, which takes place at Rhayader from July 24-27.

The four-day festival offers routes through some of the best scenery in Wales and there will be five different rides per day, including some suitable for families.

Rhayader is on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains, near the beautiful Elan Valley, and cyclists are welcome to come for the whole four days or to turn up just for the day.

Festival organiser Emrys Jones said: “It’s a great chance for cyclists from across Wales and beyond to get together and celebrate the great routes and beautiful scenery we have here in Wales.”

There is a range of routes on offer on quiet lanes with little traffic. Other rides include a treasure hunt, freewheeling competition, off-road rides and a very steep hill climb race.

The Welsh Festival of Cycling is based at the  Rhayader  Football Club (next door to the Rugby club it was based at last year). Camping is available and costs from £30 for five nights.
