Bikes take centre stage at London's Victoria & Albert Museum next Friday evening

London's Victoria & Albert Museum will next week be devoting the latest in its Friday Late series of evening events to the bicycle. Under the name Eat, Sleep, Ride, Repeat, the event, being hosted in partnership with Bike V Design, "will explore the diverse design culture that surrounds and is inspired by the bicycle - from flatland BMX performances, to illustration, film and fashion."

Numbers will be limited at many of the talks and other features of the evening, with places available on a first come, first served basis. It starts at 1830 - leaving hopefully just enough time to get up to South Kensington from the Herne Hill Good Friday Meeting - and ends at 2200.

More information will be made available on the V&A website in the coming days but for now, here's a summary of what's on offer.

MUSIC & PERFORMANCE

Tom Whalley
Tom (Producer of The Huey Show on BBC 6Music) will be spinning funk, soul, disco, soundtracks and party jazz from his vast vault of vinyl.

TALKS

Bicycle Cultures: A Secret History (1869 – 2013)
What does the future have in store for bike culture in Britain? Resonance FM Bike Show host Jack Thurston will present a selective and secret history of the bicycle, with the help of a small cast of experts including Tim Dawson, cycling columnist for the Sunday Times.

Informal discussion led by Alice Marsh from Bike V Design, together with Andrew Diprose from The Ride Journal, James Greig from Cycle Love Blog, Tom Donhou (framebuilder), James Cartwright from Its Nice That, and Mike White from Boneshaker Magazine.

INSTALLATIONS

Bicycle Taxidermy
Follow a trail of guerrilla hanging with Regan Appleton – both a sentimental take on what to do with ones trusty steed after all its adventures and an ironic nod to the bizarre habit of stuffing ones pet.

Portraits by George Marshall
Rapha photographer and associate editor of Albion magazine George Marshall’s cycling portraits will be projected during the evening. Keep an eye out for several new additions of V&A staff and their bikes.

Grab a Barclays bike or jump on your own, and discover the hidden gems of Albertopolis through the eyes of Alice Lobb and Ruby Baker.

For The Love Of Print
Join printmaker and designer and Rebecca J Kaye in a bespoke screen-printing workshop inspired by the bicycle.

Bobbin Bicycles Drawing Studio
Join Bobbin Bicycles together with special guests from The Old Bicycle Showroom as they unlock the mysteries of the bicycle using traditional life drawing techniques.
