The approach of Stolen-bikes.co.uk is multipronged; first a rider can alert the cycling community to the theft by posting information and pictures to Stolen-bikes.co.uk.

Then, they and friends can scour FindThatBike.co.uk, which assimilates details of bikes being advertised on sites including Gumtree, eBay and PreLoved in a gallery format.

Owner John Moss has also recently launched RegisterThatBike.co.uk which helps cyclists find official police bike marking events in their area, and RecoveredThatBike.co.uk which collects information about bikes that have been recovered by the police but have yet to find their owners.

He said: ""I setup these websites after having my own bike stolen. After seeing the drastically low recovery rates I knew that there was something I could do about that as a web developer."
