howies launch new Dyfi windproof jacket

Stylish (and colourful) windproof jacket for the unpredictable spring weather

They’re a busy bunch at howies. Not only did they release the Outback jacket the other day, there was the brand new Cycle range recently as well, with their first bib shorts. And now they've launched the Dyfi, a lightweight windproof shell ideally suited to the unpredictable spring weather we’re experiencing right now. It draws similiarites with last year's Brenin which we reviewed, bu with a vastly improved fit and redesigned panels.

It’s not strictly a road-specific garment, it has a more relaxed fit that makes it a bit more versatile - you could happily go for a run in it or head off-road on your mountain bike. The folks over at howies are a multi-sport bunch, and this passion flows through in the design of the Dyfi jacket. We see it being the ideal jacket for those who want a more relaxed style of jacket, and it would certainly look good on the daily commute into the office. You could even wear it off the bike as well.

It’s made from a recycled polyester ripstop fabric which has a hydrophobic coating, to give it some resistance in showers. The arm panels feature a four-way stretch fabric to give it a bit more flexibility when you’re getting animated.

There’s some nice details like the fleece lined collar, reflective details on the tail and elasticated cuffs. The chest pocket is zipped, with a small port for threading a headphone cable through. And when you’re not wearing the jacket it’ll bundle down small into the same chest pocket.

It costs £39 and is available in three colours Fire Orange, Licorice and Summer Blue, which is a colourful response to the people who commented that the recently released cycle range was a little too black.

Does anyone know how waterproof this jacket is? Could you use it in heavy rain or is it just spray proof?

Hi @NeilG83,

The main body and arm fabric is water resistant so it keeps out spray and drizzle nicely.

They're not designed for a downpour but will keep out a puddle, wheel spray or light shower and dry out fast for the rest of your ride.

Hope that helps.
