Daisy Abela follows in Emma Way's footsteps with tweets of intentional collision with cyclist

"I purposely run him over LOL"...

After the news two weeks ago that Emma Way was to face charges of driving without due care and attention and leaving the scene of a collision after her #bloodycyclists outburst on twitter, Daisy Abela seems to be treading a worryingly similar path after tweeting today that she intentionally ran over a cylist after an altercation.

It's been noted before that a disproportionate amount of the anger towards cyclists on twitter – as collated by the twitter account @cyclehatred – comes from young female drivers. There have been different theories put forward as to why this might be so; everything from a feeling of vulnerability to the simple fact of young females being over-represented on twitter. But once again it's a young female driver involved, this time seemingly admitting to deliberately running down a cyclist.

She also states in her timeline that she was "definitely still drunk" and of course that she hates cyclists.

The altercation seemingly cost her a wing mirror.

Emma Way's case was investigated by Norfolk Police after the cyclist, Toby Hockley, came forward to say he'd been knocked off his bike whilst taking part in a sportive. The tweet subsequently went viral, with Ms Way appearing on local radio and BBC breakfast television to apologise. For the tweet, we might add, not the incident or the attitude.

Daisy Abela seems to hail from near Bromley in Greater London. So if you were involved in an altercation with a female driver anywhere in that vicinity this morning, that ended with you being run down, it might be worth getting in touch with your local constabulary.

Trouble is, this is the tip of the iceberg. For every Dumb Dangerous Daisy who is actually stupid enough to brag about breaking the law on-line there are scores of drivers with some level of inteligence who have the same attidude and sense of entitlement. I was left hooked pretty badly a little while ago by a young female driver (totally circumstantial but seems to be a pattern emerging) who got upset when I rode right into the back of her car. Not sure where she thought I would end up.

One of the possible reasons for this violence being prevalent amongst young women is 'vulnerability'!!! So the person protected by in the two tons of metal, with an engine making it into a potentially lethal projectile, is 'vulnerable', whilst the person on a bike, with no protection, isn't?

'Attmpted to commit murder of a vulnerable person today, just cos they were on a bike, ha haaaa. Still drunk, it was great except that I only injured them. Will try again another time, ha ha haaaa'

Dumb Dangerous Daisy

First off - well done to road.cc for blocking comments on the report on Emma Way being charged.

(My opinion on the matter is already on this site - and I too won't say any more either as I know the law on subjidice as does my solicitor wife!)

But this is extraordinary - I wonder if it'll set a legal precedent? Not only possible attempted murder charges but also drink driving. Do you have to fail a breathalyser or blood test to be convicted or is a written confession enough? I've never heard of it before, but then it wasn't that long ago when you could be convicted of murder without finding a body.

Her and her pal just sound like a pair of silly little girls. Sounds like a fair degree of bluster and exaggeration involved.

According to her mate's side of the story, the cyclist in question swerved dangerously as she was trying to pass a group and she shouted at him, he then chased and banged on the car roof and hit the wing mirror as he leaned in the passenger window. May be true, I've certainly seen a lot of testosterone fuelled idiots on the road react badly to even the slightest criticism of their riding etiquette but what's not acceptable is the content of her tweets, making light of running someone over, drink-driving and the rest.

Thing is, when she says swerved dangerously, was he avoiding a pothole, drain etc. How much room had she given. As i pointed out to the friend, just because she doesn't THINK she didn't anything wrong doesn't mean she didn't do anything wrong.

re the comment below, yes, definitely a stupid girl who will have learnt a lot about social media very quickly!

"FFS, driving is a privilege not a right; how do these people qualify?"
This.
Oh yeah, the personal comments aren't called for either, makes you look no better than the "all cyclists are c***s" brigade. All very sad.

Can't believe some people and the lack of awareness that their actions can have serious and very dangerous consequences.

Perhaps she should change her Twitter name to "Dangerous Daisy" ?

Although Ms Abela may be keeping a studious silence on the matter, one of her friends and apparently a passenger in the vehicle, is not.

Tweets every few minutes at time of writing. The police have, according to Ms Frew, taken the side of Ms Abela.

@PunkassCG @SGFuthey @daisymerollinnn @johnstevensonx this is not even worth talking about the police are on her side as well by the way

Off to clean the bike and try to erase the memory of the selfie of Ms Abela in a Mickey Mouse onesie from my mind.

I have sensed a pronounced spike in driver aggression being substituted and indeed, applauded over skill these past few months and wondered where it was suddenly emanating from. Obviously, most of us can empathise with the terror as riders but I’ve also witnessed it so many times behind the wheel and aboard motorcycles.

Friday evening being a case in point - I was following two clubmen along the sweeping roads and at respectful distance when a white ’08 plate Astra starts tailgating, weaving clearly intent on overtaking on a series of double bends regardless of the consequences!

Just the other week I sustained “Severe crush injuries” having been bitten by my fixer’s transmission, requiring surgery and thirteen hours in A&E. While being prepped I was asked about previous accidents/admissions- one of which involved being rear ended at 30mph while aboard 400lb of Kawasaki. The lights were red (as was said beast) but the young driver who hit me claimed SMIDSY(!)

I am inclined to agree with some other commentators that this moronic behaviour/attitudes are rooted in the “entitlement” culture but have little faith in the Police addressing Daisy Abela and her ilk with appropriate force. Hopefully this vile behaviour will cost them dearly in future life.

The last tweet on here by daisy about appreciating what you have got may be quite prophetic!

Disgusting. Worse than Emma Way IMO - she's done it deliberately. Should be prosecuted as attempted murder.

Woman referred to as "Hello Daisy" looks very similar to LH person on @Daisymerollin twitter account.

One wonders how they will cope when parental money dries up, or they become a serious embarassment. Those who have tracked Mary Beard threats might note that when one of the vast population who provide passive surveillance (better than any official agency trying it in covert or overt form) delivered a coup de grace by posting that he knew who the offender was, and knew his mother very well - result was far more effective than any court appearance and formal penalties.

So does anyone's company do business with Daisy's mum? Maybe suggest she has a quiet word with her daughter.

Having worked for a few years on cycle paths through some 'challenging' localities, I think I can comment that even the hardest of local tearaways can be focussed to deliver some really stunning creative works with plants and paint, if it will create a good impression with their granny.

So, if it is substantiated that she has used her car as a weapon against another road user, you think that someone who recognises her should just have a quiet word with her mum?

Are you mentally ill or something?

If substantiated, she has committed some very serious offences that warrant a substantial jail sentence, if convicted.

Her mum can have a word with on her weekly jail visit.

Nothing to do with substantiated, more go to the police now and make a statement, let them carry out a proper investigation, i know!!!,

Which it seems she has done.

We don't know yet. But then, it was this sort of coverage that allowed the previous cyclist in the Way case to identify the halfwit.

Give her a pass. Judging from her external appearance she is either mentally disabled or mentally unstable.

potentially another stupid and reckless driver - hopefully a suitable punishment will end up coming her way if she is guilty. disappointing to read when at the same time this weekend cycling is centre stage in the capital for all the right reasons!

@vasgko2 - not sure why you felt the need to suggest something which, could be considered quite offensive potentially to anyone who is/knows someone with a mental health issue, or mental disability - rant over.

Hope she gets what's due to her? Some people are born EVIL! Others have a bad upbringing (Lousy Parents) and are tought that they are the only important person in the world. That type are selfish and selfcentered; our lives don't matter to them; and they don't care (for anyone) whatever the consequences.
