Violent cyclist barred from riding in Leicester

A cyclist has been hit with an ASBO that has banned him from riding in parts of Leicester after he waged a violent seven-year campaign of attacks on pedestrians in the city. Gurnaik Singh Dogra randomly kicked and punched pedestrians as he rode past them.

Photographs of Dogra are to be placed across Leicester now that he has been released from prison to warn residents about his bizarre behaviour before he was arrested recently.

The posters will include a picture of Dogra, the terms of the ASBO and a telephone number for people to report him if they see him misbehaving.

They will also be posted in areas of the city including the streets around Leicester Royal Infirmary and the West End.

As per the recent court order, Dogra, 37, can be again arrested and possibly jailed if he is caught riding or even pushing his bike through certain streets in the town.
Dogra appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court last month and was jailed for 12 weeks for two counts of assault and one offence of threatening behaviour.

He admitted the offences and was released from prison this week. The ASBO will last for five years.

Under the Asbo, Dogra cannot ride or push his bike in Victoria Park and the following streets: Welford Road, Avenue Road, Avenue Road Extension, London Road, Granby Street, Belvoir Street, Welford Place, Newarke Street, Vaughan Way, the Newarke, Western Boulevard, Upperton Road, Jarrom Street, Infirmary Road.

When riding elsewhere he must not cause "harassment, alarm or distress" to any person.

Around 40 people have complained about him since 2002, but police believe other victims have never come forward.
