Sheffield-based road.cc reader Steve was left wondering what this motorist actually gained from this impatient Near Miss of the Day manoeuvre (apart from "saving a few seconds")...
As the cycle lane approaches the turning, Steve told us people "rushing around the front is a regular problem", this driver racing ahead and fortunately avoiding his front wheel by what can be no more than a few inches.
"I wasn't going to report it as nobody ever seems to respond but it's had a strong response so I might submit it," Steve told us.

"It's as if you don't exist, isn't it?" one of Steve's followers replied. "Goodness me that's scary. Awful," another added.
> Near Miss of the Day turns 100 - Why do we do the feature and what have we learnt from it?
Over the years road.cc has reported on literally hundreds of close passes and near misses involving badly driven vehicles from every corner of the country – so many, in fact, that we’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into a regular feature on the site. One day hopefully we will run out of close passes and near misses to report on, but until that happy day arrives, Near Miss of the Day will keep rolling on.
If you’ve caught on camera a close encounter of the uncomfortable kind with another road user that you’d like to share with the wider cycling community please send it to us at info [at] road.cc or send us a message via the road.cc Facebook page.
If the video is on YouTube, please send us a link, if not we can add any footage you supply to our YouTube channel as an unlisted video (so it won't show up on searches).
Please also let us know whether you contacted the police and if so what their reaction was, as well as the reaction of the vehicle operator if it was a bus, lorry or van with company markings etc.

A simple message - report it. If you do nothing, nothing will get done.
He needs his driving license shredded and his car crushed, the upside of which, would be one less Toyota Yaris on the road !
Steve. This person poses a threat to all vulnerable road users. They need to be checked before it's too late.
I agree that you have to report to the police. Sheffield is a special case, as we have seen on here believable reports of real action being taken- however, that may just be in the very special special cases taken up by Sheffield NW Neighbourhood Policing Team. Don't get your hopes up too much:

This above, along with numerous other cases, was completely ignored by Lancashire police, and this below received a standard action letter. The police are going to amazing lengths to refuse to say what action they actually took, with the usual Lancashire misuse of GDPR regulations- I suspect they did nothing at all which is why they're refusing to disclose. The case is now with the Information Commissioner.

The latter shows the story so far
Absolutely get that video in! That is a ridiculously dangerous example of driving showing a total inability on the drivers part to read the road and perceive hazards. The police need to prosecute that driver before they seriously hurt someone. Difficult to watch, which is what I hope the impact on the RPU police officer's would find too.

No 'might' about it, Steve. Get it done!
