Did you get anywhere with the Vitus? It looks a good deal to me but like yourself I can't really find any reviews although it does get a mention here

Thanks, that is a good bike for the price but the two i am looking at are around the £375 mark and I wouldn't want to spend much more than that
For the price, I'm sure they'd both be equally capable first bikes. Others to consider include the Genesis Volant for £525 at Rutland Cycling http://www.rutlandcycling.com/159678/products/genesis-volant-10-2014-roa...
and some of the bikes from Edinburgh Bicycle Coop, http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ (I'm quite tempted by the cyclocross they do for around that price, tbh)
