The Garmin magnet clamp has two choices, one for round spokes and the other for flat spokes, if space is a problem Mavic do low profile magnets for flat spokes.
That's a very thick rare earth magnet! You can get ones that are just a few mills thick, and will almost sit flush in the depression of the pedal spindle. They're so powerful, they don't need to be big/thick.
It is only a few mills think; about three if I remember correctly. You can get thinner ones but with that bad boy I can screw up that cadence of my fellow rides
Try mounting the cadence sensor hang in down under the chain stay. This way you can get a cheap rare earth magnet and put it in the peddle spindle to activate cadence sensor and the spoke magnet will be close to the rim. Here a picture to give you an idea. You can see the speed sensor next to the valve and you can see the magnet hanging onto the peddle spindle.

Do you mean the speed sensor? most companies supply one that has a keyway slot to fit a bladed spoke. If you have another one that is bladed that will work.
I bought a set of these, slim and work perfectly... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Discrete-MAGNET-Package-for-Cadence-Speed-Sens...
