"Nice" steel road bike?

Good people of road.cc

I have a dilemma.

In a few weeks my work cyclescheme opens, and I'm able to add to the stable of bikes.

Currently I have a SS/Fixie which I use for my commute (6/11 miles each way dependent on route). I love the bike but a knee injury means I'm now on gearing that - while easy to ride - I'm being overtaken by my 3yo on his balance bike. I also have a downhill bike and a custom hardtail (I'm a MTBer at heart).

So, I'd like a nice road bike for Sunday rides, the occasional commute and general tinkering in the garage.

I'm thinking steel with a carbon fork. I like the skinny tubes. I want something that's pretty without being a racked up tourer with dynamo light etc.

Any recommendations out there?

i'm in the same boat - going to add £500 to the budget and get a genesis equilibrium disc 20 (the yellow one)

kind of depends on which scheme you're on, but the bike shops i spoke to told me topping up wasn't a problem...

the equilibrium 10 is on budget for c2w and has skinny steel and carbon forks...

Fratello rather than Acciao if you go for Condor (I would). Cheaper too, but still not in budget.

Indy Fab Steel Crown Jewel (853 main triangle). With S&S couples. Cycle scheme be damned.

I'm starting to think that. Nice bikes mentioned above (and thanks all for the recommendations), but TBH it looks like to get a nice steel bike you start to spend more than the allowed £1000.

Damn...

You won't get any of those on cyclescheme unless you can top up the £1k limit...

Genesis ... Equilibrium or Volare.
Condor ... Acciacio.
