London X League rider takes short cut and claims he won.

What to make of this? Guy in front at the LX League event at Herne Hill v50+ race goes off course after about a minute of racing. He's never seen again in the race but then bizarrely at the finish claims he 'won'. He never passed backup through the field - verified by the leading riders - yet somehow finished ahead of them all. What did he do. Having gone wrong he rejoined the race at a point he thought was appropriate , about 45 secs ahead of race and carried on. None of the riders in the lead group knew this. Did he cheat by taking a short cut - I think the answer is yes. What he should have done is gone back to where he went off course, rejoined the race no matter how far back that was and gone on from there. Is this what racing has come to where someone will do anything to win rather than accept they made a big mistake that should have cost them a lot of places. Feel sorry for the organisers on this because they clearly didn't get the full picture. But what a sad human being the rider is who doesn't admit what they did and then actually try to claim the win. Oh and as some recognition of the error he was then placed 2nd at the end? Maybe the results will get updated at some point and he will be a DSQ.

Is this not carrying on in the finest tradition of the early Tour de France riders? 1
