Quiet Turbo Trainer

ive just got an elite chrono fluid trainer from wiggle for around £150 - seems to be pretty quiet so far, in fact it's my bike that seems to make more noise!

Mine is very quiet. But then it is also expensive:

I think my Cyclops fluid 2 is pretty quiet. I have it in the house - certainly the Sufferfest is louder than the turbo.

I wonder how many peoples neighbours do actually mind but are too polite to say anything? That's the thing I'd be worried about. Bit of an awkward situation.

Oh, Flying Scot reminded me about tyres, and the benefits of a trainer tyre. My Tacx tyre claims to reduce noise by 25-30%, I forget exactly. Anyway, that's probably a big factor to consider, and it has the added benefit of not destroying your rear tyre for the road, which is cool.

I use an Elite super chrono forte. It was pretty quite and then I bought a mat to go under it and now it is very quite. I have it on a wooden floor above a bedroom and while you can hear a bit of a rumble it isn't too bad. Main point is that the mats make quite a difference, oh and trainer tyre makes a difference too.

They're all pretty noisy, I assume as allot of the noise is from the tyre.

Ikea do a cheap folding crash mat you can put below the rig to stop noise transmission through the building structure, but it's a squishy experience.

Not being a "lad", I'm not sure my opinion counts, but here it is anyway... I also have an Elite Crono Hydro-Mag Elasto etc etc turbo and would recommend it for that price range. Would mean you have some money left over to buy a riser. If you've got wooden floors you may want a mat. I mainly use it on a tiled floor, don't ever notice the noise and no complaints from neighbours thus far.

kurt kinetic road machine is just a bit above your max (£279 online) but the resistance unit is not only very quiet but probably the best I've tried for ride feel.

getting a decent mat will make a *lot* of difference whatever you ride, though

I use an Elite Crono Hydro-Mag ElastoGel Trainer (£190 at Wiggle) in my third floor flat on a mat and haven't had any issues with the neighbours. Though the fact they have quite shouty children might mean that they don't really feel in a position to complain about the noise.

My girlfriend can watch TV in another room without any issue though, and it's worked well for me.

My Elite chrono elastogel is pretty quiet, as is my Mrs' Elite Volare. Way quieter than any others I've used. I use mine in a block of flats with a mat on a wooden floor, no problems.

In reality even the supposedly 'quiet' models are still often pretty noisy once you ramp up some speed. I usually just go with whatever DCRainmaker recommends at whatever budget you are looking for:

" Granted its not a comparison of everything on the market, but most of the popular models are accounted for.
