David Hitchen: Motorbike rider jailed over GB cyclist's death

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-38583298

So 12 months for when he led the police on a chase, but 6 for killing someone.  Makes you want to mete out your own justice when they get out....

RIP Mr Hitchen.  I didn't know you, but you are clearly missed by your family and those friends that we shared.

The BBC article says that the collision happened because the bloke on a motorbike "drifted" into the other lane, into oncoming traffic, and then hit the cyclist.  Now, a car or lorry you'd immeidately be thinking "distracted driving due to phone, tiredness, etc"; but how does a motorcycle drift into the wrong lane?

On a bend?  By trying to take it too quickly and failing to stay in the lane is the only likely answer.

W T F ?!
Killing a cyclist = careless driving
90 mph and not killing someone = dangerous driving

In other news... van driver whose vehicle blew over on a bridge yesterday was arrested for dangerous driving, again, no fatalities.

90 mile an hour in 30 mph zone = 12 months gaol. Killing a cyclist at god only knows what speed, = 6months gaol. What really beggars belief is sentence for the earlier offence, 90 in the 30 zone, was suspended until sentencing for the killing, apparently by the sitting judge.  Open season permenantly on cyclists. Would we see the same sentences if it was cyclists killing motorists?
