There are active clubs in Chester, Wrexham, Crewe, Congleton and Kidsgrove. Members aren't necessarily from the town itself so you might find someone living just down the road. Hope you find some company to ride with.
It's a bit late in the season now but midweek club time trials are as good as anything to find a friendly social scene.
Edit: just found this - http://chestercyclist.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/chester-road-club-chain-gan...
Strava?
Hi John, my brother lives in Nantwich, has been looking for a training partner for a while. Would be great to arrange a ride. If you are interested I will get his twitter account for you to arrange...
regards
Not sure how good a training partner I'd be [I'm probably a bit too old & slow - 50 in October!] I'm on twitter too @wjputt Thanks John
I was going to suggest a social club ride however you mentioned less formal.
Perhaps have a look on Cycling Buddy: http://www.cyclingbuddy.com/

Based in Nantwich, East Cheshire. I ride on the roads. I am riding 25-50kms at the moment but I want to up it for endurance. I get out as often as I can.
This is as good a place as any.
Where are you based?
Where do you ride?
What kind of distances do you ride?
How often are you out?
If you answer those, then i'm sure someone will be in and around your area that might fancy hooking up for a ride. If not, they might know someone.
I have a similar problem, so been a solo rider for a long time now
