went for the Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps in the end, will be fitting soon...
agree with moysten conti 4000sfor all round riding and swalbe zx hd for summer,
Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase for excellent puncture resistance (sizes from 23-32mm). Tough and roll surprisingly well.
If you want something lighter: Vittoria Rubino Pro III, Schwalbe Durano. I have recently fitted some Schwalbe Blizzard Sport (a 240g folding tyre for less than £10 each!). Seem to roll nicely, so far so good...
Conti GPs. (Black chilli compound).
22mm on front and 24 mm on the rear.
Grippy, hard wearing, lightish and good value.
Krylion Carbon is a good choice - I'm surprised by just how nice mine are to ride.
I can vouch for the Conti 4000S - use them on my commute 22miles/day. They roll well and seem to be resistant enough so far, 1 puncture past 6months (touch wood!).
Though if your route is more prone to debris and glass I'd probably opt for something with a bit more protection.
If you can still get them, Specialized Roubaix. They have 25mm casing with a tread pattern of 23mm. I like mine as winter tyres. They also very good on pave.
conti 4 season, or 4000gp as a good winter/ commute tyre
Conti 4 Seasons for durability and commuting reliability. Conti 4000S for performance.
Where is the commute? Are glass, flints and other debris a big problem? If they are then stick with the Armadillos or go for Conti 4 Seasons.
You will notice a difference in speed just by switching to a 25mm or 23mm tyre even if you stick with the All Conditions. As I remember the 23mm All Conditions can be a real pain to get off of the rim if something does manage to get through them.
I'd suggest 700 x 25 Michelin Krylion Carbon as being exactly what you want.
Krylions : No-longer available, they are now called : Michelin Pro 4, Endurance.
700 x 23 Verdestein Fortezza Tricomps, They're lightweight, safe and the longevity is good. Michelin Lithion will last; and hug the road, or Michelin Pro 4, Endurance, Continental 4000s for lightweight fast rolling.
Schwalbe Ultremo ZX for summer use. All the above are 700 x23 or 700 x 25.
I'd suggest the VTFs for you 700 x 23.
+1 for the Verdestein Fortezza Tricomps,
