D'oh, misread news page as 'newspapers.' Still what I was saying is valid, it is nice to get more attention in the press but unlikely to grow too much, crowded market and all. Still it is good to rail at some imagined foe.

For us, it's a question of balance and resource.

There are plenty of sites that focus exclusively on road racing. We're not one of them, and we're not trying to be.

The site was conceived as addressing all aspects of cycling on the road (and elsewhere if we think it will be of interest to site users), from commuting through to competition, so obviously there's a bit of a judgment call on where the racing coverage ends.

So for week-long stage races, there is a bit of an order to things... Tour Down Under is always interesting as first WorldTour race of the year, Oman and Qatar an opportunity to see many big names start their seasons, Paris-Nice and Tirreno the big two European season openers.

By the time Catalunya, Pais Vasco etc come around that's less the case... and later in the season, we'd also skip eg Pologne, Eneco, Beijing unless there's a specific angle.

At some times of year, obviously, there's more of an emphasis on road racing on the site than others - build up and during Giro and particularly the Tour being cases in point.

As I said, there is a resource issue too... if we start covering a one-week race, obviously it's something to see through, and with other non-racing stuff going on that we need to report on and people off at trade shows etc it is something we need to factor in.

Hope that provides some insight. We do try and get the balance right, and it is one of those things we do regularly reflect on internally.

Cycling is getting MORE attention now, but the idea that it will 'rise through the ranks' to become a headline UK sport is a fantasy. The other sports are rather culturally entrenched and there is a full calendar already. Most of these sports maximum attention is going to be the summer. We are lucky to get the coverage we have, but don't expect more from the traditional print media. To use a football analogy Cycling is Everton. As long as British riders keep winning occasionally you might hear about it in the press.

Anyway, who cares what they print on their pieces of paper, that is so 17th century, bunch of lying toerags they are.
