I got a Giro Atmos in the end of season sale from Evans last year. Ended up saving about £60.00 so i would advise you to do similar.

Try on a few and find one that you prefer then wait for the sales. Good luck though as there are boat loads of lids out there.

I bought a Specialized Propero II a wee while ago for £70, and I'm thrilled with it. It's far more comfortable and good looking than my old one (a much cheaper Bell). The man in the shop said that Specialized tend to be narrower, while their Giro helmets fitted slightly wider heads better, so that may be worth considering.

As everyone here will surely tell you, the only way to do it is to try them out and see what's best for you though.

I will certainly look at the kask. I tried the model below the mojito, the k-50? Thats was comfy.
It seems to be top of the list

I agree with Dawguk, the Kask Mojito is a really good lid. The fastening is excellent, it's comfortable and really well ventilated. I can't fault it.

I just bought a Kask Mojito. Sure it was expensive, but these were the deciding factors for me:

- It is relatively low profile, and I hated being a cycling mushroom.

- The helmet itself sits evenly around my whole head, even when done up very tightly. This is one of the biggest considerations for me - as soon as you feel that you are wearing your lid, it's the wrong one.

- Looks cool (as helmets go)

There is no 'best'. You need to try a few brands, you'll surely find that one is a better fit than the others.

I found that Bell helmets suited my head shape better than Giro or Met, for other people it's the reverse. Kask, Lazer and Specialized are also worth a look.

Paying more doesn't get you a better helmet, it usually means it has more holes, a bit less weight and (usually) better ventilation.

The road.cc helmet reviews might help.

There are a lot on offer for that price and cheaper but I would advise going in to a shop and trying them on as comfort is high up on my list and not all of them feel right on your/my head, we are all different apparently 3
