latest and newest

As I can't find any "contact us" section on the website, I thought I'd just post this here.

In the comments section of all the articles on road.cc, readers can choose to sort comments by "latest" or "newest". Surely in this context, those words mean exactly the same thing. It's a bit odd and not exactly slick web design.

If you're new please join in and if you have questions pop them below and the forum regulars will answer as best we can.

'oldest' would be the oldest comments. so if there was 100, it'd be the first 30 (the site shows 30 comments by default). whereas 'latest' is the the latest 30.

'newest' means 'newest first'. possibly it should say that.

Hmm, surely, the word you are looking for is "oldest". "Latest" is a synonym for "newest". For example, the "latest headlines" or the "latest technology".

Anyway, I'll stop being a pedant now.

newest shows the newest comment at the top. latest shows the latest comments in chronological order, going down the page. so no, they're not the same. they're similar though.
