I'm assuming that the rail operator has CCTV footage taken from the monitoring camera which makes his cock and bull story just lies. I wonder how much such defenses increase sentences on the basis of being dishonest and showing alack of remorse.
You're a surefire gamblin' man if you take chances at level crossings, so I suppose having your day(s) in court trying to minimise the incident/ your part in it is a logical sequence.
"...a man of previous good character." I wonder with what hollow laugh local cyclists would greet that. Remorse? '...although the defendant denied dangerous driving he did "express concern as to how bad the incident could've been"' so that's all right then.

Banned driver on M8 motorway hits car causing it to lose control and plough into central reservation
His defence solicitor said that it was a momentary lapse of judgement. How can driving while disqualified be a momentary lapse?

Car 'loses control' and ploughs into house as crash leaves two in hospital

if it was an Audi or a BMW, I wouldn't need to ask what the other hand was doing:
“The collision is thought to of [SIC] been caused when the drivers hand slipped off the steering wheel and they lost control.”
Is "my hand slipped" a first?

Family reeling as car crashes into home - for the eighteenth time
The links to previous stories are like Russian dolls. Words below and picture are from one of the earlier episodes:
"so he has smashed straight into my silver car, in the process hitting my mum’s orange Toyota and my car has gone flying into the garden at 180, and he’s carried on to then hit our wall and the cesspit." No shit, huh?

"Keen cyclist" name of Percy located in Exeter
This could be Exeter's most notorious bollard
The bollard has been damaged again recently which has become a regular sight for cyclist and former Exeter councillor Percy Prowse on his way home. He is calling for the bollard to be removed to save taxpayers money.
"The council does not need to hold a public consultation the remove the bollard. Just take it away because it doesn't stop people turning left as they do it all the time and it will save lots of money."

Going out of their way not to involve a driver: "The incident happened on the evening of Monday, April 25, when the car became embedded in the house at Clarimalt Drive in Kirkcaldy."
And we're a bit confused about when it actually happened:
"Police have confirmed that they are investigating the crash, which occurred at around 8.30am, and thankfully resulted in no injuries"

This doesn't quite fit the brief, but here's a mysterious autonomous? car just waiting to pounce. It appears to have crashed but it's not clear what it crashed into.

You can see the deformed tracks resulting from this.
No buildings harmed here, but tell me again how LTNs delay the emergency services? Surely if lives are in danger, the fire brigade are less worried about some driver's paintwork?

It's more fun when it's a BMW or Audi which goes onto the beach and is submerged by the tide - I experienced such a great joy at the SE of Anglesey many years ago, but there must have been more since then

Car crashes into front of house leaving sitting room covered in bricks and glass
we've seen worse in terms of structural damage - this article describes the effect on ordinary poeople - an extract below
If it wasn’t for my Japanese cherry blossom tree [which took much of the impact of the car] in the garden that car would have been in the lounge."
A neighbour, who said they’ve struggled with the shock of the incident since Tuesday said they tried to make sure the driver was OK before the man “leapt from the car and ran away”.
Gwent Police said a man was arrested after the incident on suspicion of driving while unfit through alcohol, but was later released without charge.
John and Heather have struggled to return to normal life since the event, and have said they don’t think they’ll be able to for some time. They’re making do in a small spare room at the back of the house.
“We’re nervous now,” Heather said. “I’ll be sat next to the window from now on and I’ll be nervous. We haven’t got our tree to protect us. Our neighbours are thinking the same thing. How can you stop something like that from happening again? It can happen to anyone. We keeping finding shards of glass in our fingers. You don’t know until it’s in your hands.”
The pair spent Sunday morning in church as usual, but this time it was even more poignant.
“We honestly believe God was looking after us,” John said. “An hour earlier and we’d have been dead. I’m not being dramatic there. With everything that came through the window, we couldn’t have survived that.”
