Didn't know where to put this one

https://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/23620022.colchester-pensioner-cut-dr...

"Rimovsky, who admitted driving with out consideration, was not present at the hearing at Colchester Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 15.

But the 80-year-old also admitted a second offence of driving when her licence was “an expired substantive” – meaning she had failed to renew her driving licence after it had been withdrawn. "

Outcome: £40 fine, £16 to fund victim services, and costs of £110, 3 points

Not even a ban.

The driver of the Maserati failed to see the marked #RPU car in the rear view as it was followed at 125mph.
The lack of reg plate and the fact it’s SORN meant the vehicle was recovered and increased the value of the recovery truck by £300K !!

Having moved and decided to sign up to Nextdoor I'm experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions as I read their wails about roadworks, shoddy parking, parking bills, LTNs and so on.  I sit there shaking my head totally bewildered at their rants and distress about stuff that can be easily fixed with a bit more foresight, courtesy and patience.

Sussex Police on scene of Broadwater, Worthing incident

A man has reportedly been arrested after a “road rage” incident which blocked a busy road.

Police officers were called to deal with the alleged scuffle involving a man on Ardsheal Road in Broadwater, Worthing.

A bus was seen stopped in the middle of the road at around 11.30am while officers questioned a man by the side of street. He was then later seen being put in the back of a police car in handcuffs.

It is currently unclear what the man has been arrested on suspicion of or whether the bus is involved in the incident.

A woman had to be cut free from a car by fire crews after the crash on the A41 near Newport, Shropshire at 1.15pm on Thursday. [report]

A car ended up on its roof on 30mph road after a collision on Belle Vue Road in Shrewsbury on Friday morning [report]. A local resident I know was not at all surprised - far too much fast, dangerous, and inconsiderate driving on that road, he said.

A driverless car went rogue in a "one-vehicle collision" in Parkway, Madeley, Telford shortly after 7am on Sunday morning when a car "left the roadway and came to rest on a concrete bollard and fence. Nobody was trapped inside". Isn't technology great! [report]

The Birmingham bus lanes catching 20,000 drivers in just five months

This would explain why I quite often cycle through the Moor Street bus gate with a car by my side. It's a lot of people who either aren't reading the signs or who are ignoring them.

“If the airbag goes off in an accident, I fear the dog may be crushed.”

Interesting - a rare mention of what happens at the end of people's "driving career" on the Beeb:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-66053510

bbc wrote:

A DfT spokesperson said: "All drivers are already required to ensure they are medically fit to drive, and all car drivers over 70 must renew their licence every three years. We have no plans to change the requirements for older drivers."

Of course it would be great if we could offer people the ability to keep mobile but in a safer way, to help maintain independence and social connections.  Public transport deserts in the UK though and almost nothing like this:

Man's 'moment of madness' as he drives straight into path of train at level crossing

Dalat Gulzar, 51, ignored signs and flashing light at Llanbedr railway station, in Gwynedd, before narrowly missing a collision with a train

In mitigation, Nathan Goldstein said his client was a "hard working family man" who had experienced a "moment of absolute madness" which will have a profound effect upon his life. He said the defendant, who accepted his guilt following the verdict, would suffer as a result of a driving ban and would possibly have to close his business if he were not able to properly serve his customers.

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/mum-faces-abuse-parking-busy-8589080

Quote:

A mum has faced abuse for having to park on a busy A-road after double yellow lines were painted over her usual parking spot. Laura Murray, who lives in Keynsham with her son, originally used the on-street parking on Pixash Lane which was removed in February as part of work to accommodate the new Keynsham Recycling Hub.

Now she has been forced to leave her car parked on the busy A4 Bath Road in order to park near her house, but has faced abuse from other drivers. Ms Murray said: “It’s been an absolute nightmare.”

She said: “That’s the only legal place I can park because anywhere else is double yellows. They won’t let me park on the land outside my house because it's not a dropped kerb and apparently it's too close to the junction.”

Quote:

The email said: “We use a secluded ‘classroom’ area surrounded mostly by bushes and trees so we are removed from the main body of the Downs. Yesterday, a car began to drive into the classroom area while 29 five and six year olds were seated on the ground.”

Two volunteers immediately approached the driver and asked him to back away, which he did, but then he parked on the trail which was about to be used by the children. The email said: “They asked him to move again and he refused and was very rude to them.”

The volunteers remained calm in order to defuse the situation, according to the email. It added that the children had been placed in 'an extremely vulnerable position with a volatile person at the wheel of the car illegally on the Downs'.
