More signs needed in Nottingham to stop drivers blocking tram route as car dealership approved

one more sign will fix it

https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/local-news/more-signs-needed-notting...

1. Put big, replaceable bumpers on the trams.
2. Legalize the trams pushing cars out of the way.

Ignoring the (assumed) drivist responses, as I've sat here thinking about this - I actually think it is about time.

I have been noticing pedestrian crossings changing to amber while (generally older) people are still trying to cross. I can imagine some drivers will start to drive through because "its amber and that means go"

Well done Surrey.

Though just walking down queues of traffic at the lights would give you more...

That journey is still 1.1 miles. It's only three miles in a car.

Local paper complains bus lane only used by one bus every 20 mins... https://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/23681906.ipswich-west-end-road-bus-la...

North Somerset council are doing works on the A369 between Bristol and Portishead.  Adding a completely new bus lane at the Beggar Bush Lane traffic lights and changing the current 2+ lane into a bus lane at the approach to the Gordano roundabout over the motorway.

The road is on one bus route (Bristol--->Portishead--->Bristol) which provides a half hourly service each way.

Clevedon: Somerset motorists slapped with more than 20 fines in seafront parking crackdown

More than 22 parking fines were handed out in two days

Seems to me that the article could also be headed as "Entitled motorists ignore road markings of which they don't approve".

It's only a mercy the whole shoal didn't strand.  Give it the beached whale treatment maybe - bury it there or tow it out to sea?

Drivers hit by ‘price penalty’ to meet Ulez rules

“While the overall used car market is in good health nationally, drivers are having to pay a price penalty to follow the rules in London." 🎻

Transport for London estimates that more than 200,000 drivers of non-compliant vehicles will be affected."

I'd rather consider that there's now a cost to going around polluting and ruining people's air and health.

How is that not blocking the pavement when there's not even enough space for him and his dog?

Because they can walk on the road, as long as they wait so as not to inconvenience respectable motorists

It's not the roll of the police to chase innocent motorists.

hurt a driver? As in drag them out of their metal box designed to protect them from high impact collisions and beat them?

It really is a thing - check out Twitter:

[video of obvious impatient dangerous driver close pass of cyclist into oncoming]

1. "that's not close"

 2. "it was all the cyclist's fault [somehow/because reasons]"

3. "aren't they supposed to give us a 1 meter in traffic?"

1. Bring back the man with the red flag / orange tabbard

2. Bounce any cars blocking the tracks out of the way - flipping them seems pretty easy

I see it most days: drivers waiting until people are not directly in front of their car on a zebra crossing then pulling away; drivers doing the same on pelican crossings, as long as the light is amber...

That's Weymouth Quay, the train going from the station to the ferry terminal along the harbour side was part of my childhood, and remember cars being bumped out of the way. It was always holidaymakers, not seeing the tracks or the signs. The other danger there for parking is the flooding, the road under the town bridge is low enough to allow a train under, which means it floods at spring tide. Many a car would float away while the owner enjoyed a pint in the Royal Oak.

The last train ran back the late 90s, while the ferry terminal was closed in 2015, and demolished in 2019.

Finally, the tracks were taken up and the quayside redeveloped in 2022. Lots of people moaned about the tracks going, but the reality was, Network Rail had no intention of running rolling stock ever again, the sleepers were knackered, and eventually they went. The red light signal had been illuminated since 1987 in King Street was taken away (bonkers waste of electricity but the road was classified as part of the mainline by Network Rail so needed to have railway signalling).

What's this got to do with cycling? Well for many years the railway lines in King Street, Commercial Road and the quayside meant riding down there was taking your life in your hands, and their removal last year was/is very popular amongst cyclists and motorcyclists.

Aha! Knightsbridge you say. Well in that case, I'll see your comment on the home page ticker, click through, take a little hop onto "newest first", hit reply (without quote) and there you have it - Mornington Crescent!

I've got the soundtrack to that, almost:

Beware, it says "Jazz Funk"...

Can't recall if it's already been here but NotJustBikes musings on "Why Cars Rarely Crash into Buildings in the Netherlands" are a classic, and could make this thread much less busy.
