'Just Eat delivery driver' [rider] pictured in Clyde Tunnel cycling 'dangerously' close to car

A witness was concerned when he spotted the delivery driver riding his bike through the Clyde Tunnel with a Just Eat box strapped to his back last Friday night.

One concerned witness told Glasgow Live: "When I saw the delivery cyclist, I was surprised at first, almost couldn’t believe what I was seeing, then I thought what an idiot he’s going to hurt himself or a driver.

"And it didn’t look like a pleasant cycle. Poor guy.

"The cycle tunnel is right next door"

Spotted this on my way home tonight.

"I'm in my car. I need to chat to my buddy in the field up there. But I'm in my car. ARGGH I don't know what to do? How can I be expected to make this kind of decision?!"

"AhHa! I'm a genius! I can drive my car up that banking and yell at him out the window."

Sad case of the family hit by the driver filming himself speeding down the motorway. The same driver who had already been in court for driving with no insurance a few years earlier AND even with that previous, just got a warning letter for street racing a few weeks before he murdered people.

The car he was in was "limited" at 155mph. Why are they not limited to 80mph tops? ( A little over the limit for supposed safety as drivers claim you sometimes need to be a bit faster for some reason).

Somerset drink driver found unresponsive at wheel of car (BBC)

At least they acknowledged that he was 'in charge of' his car...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-66199013

Quote:

A driver who was so drunk he remained unconscious while three police officers removed him from the car has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Andrew Reeve, 47, of Westonzoyland, was found in his Land Rover with the engine on, blocking the road on Fore Street, just before 18:00 BST on 3 June.

He later recorded a reading of 125mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, 90mg over the legal limit of 35mg.

He was given an eight-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Reeve, who pleaded guilty, was also disqualified from driving for 30 months and ordered to pay court costs and a victim surcharge.

I guess we'll find out if the "I've just got to nip in here" / passing traffic market segment is worth as much as they say.

why do we never get a photostory of a driver clutching  their police NIP or WL saying "what an outrage" and "I'm prepared to got to court over this" etc the same way as we do parking contravention letters?

Random thought on a wet Saturday morning.

Too pissed to drive but get no points and a conditional discharge

"We thought you were doing the right thing in emergency situation to help your friend in peril"

Twitter (or X men as it seems to be called):

"Interesting that her defence was she was mounting a rescue mission. If you are taught how to conduct a rescue or First Aid, you will be told early on the last thing you do is put yourself or others at additonal risk by your actions. Yet this is what she did."

"If you’re on a night out and getting stuck into cocktails, why tf did you bring the car?"

Motorist caught solving Rubik's Cube with both hands while driving on M25 in Surrey

If Mark Cavendish is allowed to solve a Rubik's cube while on a bike, why can't someone solve one while driving a car?

That is so unfair!

Army of Exeter residents kick off at road closures plan

Point well and truly missed below - although the disabled lady's story is a challenge.  If only we could set a simple respected rule that allowed her to drive where others cannot.

"When the changes come in we will only be able to turn left and come along Whipton Lane onto the main road to get to Whipton. I go to Whipton two to three times a week and my journey will now be three miles instead of 1.1 miles."

New plans for 'car free' homes next to Exeter Morrisons

It is the second phase of the major development on land next to Exeter’s Morrisons supermarket

Gotta love the comments on this one:

"Has the thought occurred to anyone that this idea will restrict those living in this apartment potentially freedom of travel? Where does mental health come into this"

Schrodinger's flat dweller simultaneously able to afford / not able to afford one / run a car

....and with house prices how they are, if these are even remotely affordable, somebody will end up having to live in them and have this assault on personal transport rammed down their throat.

Imagine what the driver would have been doing if it wasn't heavy animals that could have seriously damaged their car, but lighter cyclists.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-66084182

Edit: I was looking for local newspaper reports of the incident for some BTL comments when I noticed this story. Why isn't it bigger news in the major press.

Quote:

There were 3,552 equine related road incidents, with 68 horse deaths, 125 injured and 139 human injuries last year. The reports show a notable 21 per cent increase in spite of the new rules.
“I am getting regular reports from customers of all ages about the frightening regularity of drivers speeding past and making dangerous overtakes. This is unacceptable,” she said."We are all road users and should be working to make it as safe as possible. As riders, we do as much as is physically possible and other road users not doing their part makes it 100 times more dangerous for all."It takes less than 30 seconds to slow down to 10 mph and give as much room as possible. Horses riding double is becoming a necessity for safety, so please be patient; it is not just for our safety but for yours.

Nimby. However he's right... barely wide enough for pedestrians AND cycling. There is the (one-way) church Street in the other side, albeit everyone would be held up eg for funerals (those entitled mourners, slowing traffic...)

Basically the fault of the entitled Church of England / historic builders (probably all Masons) for not putting in decent car parking / wider roads. Good luck with getting a faculty (is that right?) for adding some in the graveyard though. Not in keeping!

Mr "It's not in anyone's way" here is a new one on me, but this is a chance to revisit several "I'm prepared to go to court (prison in one case) over this" stories, many of which we've had on here. What cars do to people.

I get that it's a crappy operating model, but drivers and their constant bullshit, try-ons and whingeing have brought this on themselves.
