Those that would like to nominate your favourite cycling project in Greater London for an award have until 10am this Monday. That’s the deadline for the London Cycling Awards, and school and workplace initiatives, community projects and cycling facilities such as routes and parking are all welcome.
The London Cycling Awards celebrate the best cycling initiatives to the growth of cycling in the capital.
All you need to do is tell the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) why the project or initiative deserves an award. Maybe you have a favourite cycle club that promotes cycling for families, or your work provides the means and storage for you to cycle to the office every day.
You can send photos and comments from participants in the projects if you so wish – and you can even nominate your own project. All that matters is that the project should have been initiated or completed since April 2008.
The annual awards programme recognises and celebrates the greatest contributions to the growth of cycling in the capital.
Tom Bogdanowicz, campaigns manager at LCC, said: “There are dozens of new and exciting cycling projects out there – this is a chance for any Londoner to nominate their favourite one.
“It might be an employer who has launched an innovative scheme to get people cycling or it could be a project to help people with disabilities gain confidence on their bikes.”
The categories for this year’s nominations are, Best Cycle Facility, Best Community Cycling Initiative, Best Cycling Initiative for Young People or Children, and Best Workplace Cycling Initiative.
Last year’s award winners included a bike recycling project in Kingston, a ‘Well at Work’ scheme at Newham University Hospital, and bicycle lockers on the Frampton Park Estate.
Many previous award winners have developed their projects into successful organisations that support cycling and some award winning bike facilities are now used by thousands of cyclists.
The awards will be presented at the LCC’s AGM on November 17. Details on how to submit a nomination are available at www.lcc.org.uk
