Chelsea Bridge collision victim named as HGV driver is investigated for causing death by dangerous driving

The cyclist killed in a collision with an HGV near Chelsea Bridge in London last month has been named as 36-year-old teacher Charlotte Landi. A Scotland Yard spokesman has said that the driver involved is now being investigated on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The London Evening Standard reports that Landi is the seventh cyclist to die on London’s roads this year.

Landi is thought to have been cycling east along the Chelsea Embankment to Grosvenor Road when she was involved in a collision with a lorry.

The driver was first arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and is now being investigated for causing death by dangerous driving.

Last month we reported that the truck involved is reportedly owned by a family member of two directors who were banned from running a transport firm following a fatal collision with cyclist Alan Neve in July 2013.

On Thursday night, campaign group Stop Killing Cyclists held a “die in” vigil in Landi’s memory outside Kensington and Chelsea town hall.

Founder Donnachadh McCarthy said: “She was a beautiful young woman just trying to go to work at her school. This junction needs to be protected but it’s being opposed at the consultation level in the boroughs.”

A spokesman for Kensington and Chelsea council said: “We have created 8km of new Quietway routes in the last year, meaning people can travel around on roads which generally have fewer heavy vehicles, but we will continue to look at ways to make our streets safer.”
