Pain On The Plain sportive takes unique military route

Off-road sections on offer in charity event that supports families of servicemen

If you're looking for a unique organised event this weekend in aid of a good cause, then Pain On The Plain in Wiltshire might be right up your gravel path.

The sportive on Sunday, which features 100 mile and 100 km routes starting in Tidworth, as well as a 30 miler designed for people having a first go at a sportive, takes in roads, private military routes on Salisbury Plain, and also features some optional off-road sections that are more often traversed by the tracks of battle tanks.

The proceeds go towards SSAFA - Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen & Families Association - an armed forces charity that dates back 126 years, helping out the families and dependants of armed services personnel.

Saturday afternoon offers the chance to watch the Army Cycling Union criterium championships taking place in the grounds of Tedworth House and there are two Go-Ride coaching sessions, one on each day.

That's "Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families". The Army bit's covered by "Soldiers" and it's vitally important that injured or retired flyers are kept in moustache wax and Brylcreem 3
