Cycle lovers can take their bikes to a free bike festival in Hastings this Saturday to celebrate cycling and promote safety. Hastings Urban Bikes is staging it around the bandstand in Alexandra Park in the hope it brings together cyclists young and old to promote safe cycling, share information, and promote the health and environmental benefits of cycling and the joy of being on two wheels.
There will be a free Dr Bike workshop where visitors can bring their bike along for a tune-up or an assessment of their woes, and free bike maintenance workshops at 1.30pm, 2.30pm, and 3.30pm. So if you want to know how to fix a puncture or adjust your brakes, Tim from Spin City will be on hand to help.
In addition there will be information stands, a bike jumble stall, a pedal-powered bubble machine, and much more.
Nick Hanna of Hastings Urban Bikes said: “This is the second summer festival as we did one last year at a smaller venue. We are hoping to attract a couple of hundred people, although that could depend on the weather.
Music from the bandstand will include a great line up of locally-grown talent including baroque, folk, jazz and samba, as well as the best of the world's top bicycle songs.
There will be a creative Art and Poetry tent where children and adults are invited to come along and decorate their bikes or write poems about them. The decorated bikes will take part in a carnival procession at 3pm, lead by the Sambalanca band.
The event runs from 1-5pm and is sponsored by Hastings and Rother NHS Trust with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyles. Please note that there is no cycling within Lower Alexandra Park and for more information visit www.hastingsurbanbikes.com
