Are you a data-hungry cyclist? Strava not providing enough data already? Then you might be interested in StravistiX, an extension for Google’s Chrome web browser that takes data analysis to another level.
The long list of so-called improvements to Strava are listed at the bottom of this article, but the extension essentially allows you to go into much more detail when analysing a ride. Installing it provides loads more tables and graphs for dissecting power, speed, heart rate.
One of the highlights of the extension aims to make average speed more of a useful measurement of how fast/hard/epic a ride actually was. Stopping at junctions and traffic lights can really impact your average speed, so the StravistiX introduces Quartile measurements. This breaks down a ride into smaller segments and reveals the fastest 75% of the ride, and uses this to produce a more meaningful average speed.
As an example, on one ride, my average speed was 27.8km/h. The 75% Quartile Speed, however, was 32km/h. The bigger number sounds much better. Other useful stats displayed includes average climbing speed and time spent climbing. It can also show you your speed and power distribution in minutes, which is quite useful.
The extension allows segments to be exported as a virtual partner course and it can display your position on a segment as a percentage. The extension also integrates the popular VeloViewer into each activity. On the mapping side, the Strava Global Heat Map is integrated onto the map.
Aiming to be more accurate than Strava’s suffer score is TRIMP (Training Impluse) Score which calculates time spent in a heart rate zone to provide the training load/TRIMP (Training Impluse) Score which calculates time spent in a heart rate zone to provide the training load/
Installing the extension adds a new drop down menu to the top navigation bar in Strava. One feature that will appeal to KOM hunters is the Achievement Map. This shows all your KOMs on a zoomable map.
The extension is free to download and is being updated on a regular basis with more features in the pipeline. Get it now at http://thomaschampagne.github.io/stravistix/

I always thought segments were Strava's USP. I know others have not copied them (Garmin Connect has them), but with lots built nobody is really bothering to use other than Strava.
It's practically an app all by itself. It's a great addition to Strava & Chrome and well worth kicking in a few $ for development of new features. 5-stars!
Stravastix didn't work for me and the developer doesn't help sort things out either.
Where to start you moaning minnies...
Firstly, if you don't like segments use a different GPS tracker. There are plenty on the market if you don't Strava. You can compare your own times with a watch if you really want. Strava has always had segments, why moan now.
And secondly I don't know who these 'brittish' people are, but I am British and use kilometres, I was taught about them in school.
Firstly, Ive moaned about them since the start, it's not a recent thing. Secondly, I can only assume you don't work in any sector where you need to provide a customer or client with what they want, rather than what you want. I like Strava, and I appreciate that there are those who like segments. I'd just like to see an option where you can select what you want to see in terms of these things, as they have re: SI or imperial units, rather than having to cancel my subscription and use someone else's service.
'If you don't like it, fook off'. The Yorkshire business plan.
Well to be honest if you understand business you'll understand that such a tiny minority of people probably want to switch off segments that it's not worth their time/money investment to implement it for the (I'm fairly confident to say very small) amount of people who want to do it, even if they were all subscribers who cancelled.
No True Yorkshireman likes Strava. All them chuffin segments gettin in t'way. Preferred it when it were all spreadsheets.
Finally I can have distance in miles and temperature in celcius like a normal human brittish.
It's very straightforward to change that on the strava website
think you can do either imperial or metric but not a mix of both.
Now I want a Kelvin option.
Absolutely
[EDIT: No point in using the 'subject' field then]
It's a great little tool and the dev puts a lot of time and effort into it.
So if you do find yourself using it, like I do, please put your hand in your pocket for the guy every month or so, even if it's just a couple of quid.

(Goes to a paypal page, you can get to the donate page from the tool itself as well).
Very good, all of it, I'm sure. But exactly what is the connection with cycling?
While I don't wish to pursue the onanistic theme, segments are a useful tool for someone like me who is a solo cyclist.
No opt-out for the willy-waving farce that is 'segments' yet?
Segments are only relevant for comparing your current with your previous performances, as you have no idea what the weather, ride duration, fellow riders or traffic state was like for any faster or slower person.
So the only 'willy-waving' that can be done is with yourself.
(there's a term for that).
You'd think so, wouldn't you? I think I'm in the 0.001% who agree with you there though...
Actually there is now an additional link on each ride to Windyty which gives you the exact weather details, eg wind direction, speed, temp etc for when the ride took place.
Personally I love the segments, it's one of the best features of Strava. Although I wouldn't go as far to call them farcical, I can appreciate where you're coming from. There's no accounting for group rides or drafting, but Strava has the ability to identify pro riders who should have their own leaderboards, leaving us amateurs with a fighting chance!
Er......just don't look at achievements when you've finished your ride? Isn't that like opting out?
in the same way that not using Strava, or not riding a bike is 'opting out', yes. If you want to use Strava but not have to wade through page after page of PITCHERZOO PEDAL POWER Z0098 shite, it'd be nice to have a 'disable segments' function
For all intensive purposes you can, in a fashion. On any strava ride you have recorded, go down to the segments. Hover over any segment, and a box will come up "Hide Segment" or some such thing. Click it and you wont see anything for that segment again. Viola! Mercy book loop.
Not being sarcastic, genunie question. What do you use Strava for?
you could always not use Strava then ?
Personally the segments for me are the number one feature on measuring my progress, hecking against HR, Power and speed etc
