Sensa bikes

I must say, before stumbling on the review of the Guila model on this site, I had never heard of Sensa. A quick google and a play with the custom options on Merlin Cycles, and I cannot understand why more people don't own one. The value is insane. Does anybody here ride one? Reviews are generally pretty good, not astounding but what are they actually like for a average joe to ride?

Ah yeah, i forget about travel and other expenses! Sounds like a good idea to sell he Madone and buy a sensa, you might even make money!

Thanks! 1 it is beautiful, they've definitely payed a lot of attention to the finishing on the bike, I love the cabling outlets too!

I might see about that, although travel this season has been crazy money from the IoM so I'm guessing I'll probably be skinto by the end of it!

I'm hoping I can do well enough for them to warrant another season riding for the team, so who knows!

Failing all that, I might just buy one all out! Although I've this brand new Madone that's barely seen the light of day haha 10

Best you get cracking to make sure they offer you another for next season then! 4

I'll read the review, but this pesky work laptop won't let me near anything that says 'blog' - I'll catch it later.

Really really old thread awakening sorryyy!!! But I did promise (better late than never, eh!?) - my review on the Sensa http://mooleur.blogspot.com

It's beautiful! So brilliant to ride. Highly recommend. The price is shocking - definitely buy one!

I'm literally in love. I have to give her back at the end of the season, my heart has already started to break!

Very good review, I love the paint on your bike too, last time I looked at these when I first posted this thread, the paint wasn't so nice, but yours looks lovely. Can you not arrange to pay half price for the bike at the end of the season?

Pics +1, I want an action shot of you giving it the "Full Cav" over the finish line with everyone else trailing in your wake... maybe leave out the rude gestures though!

Hahaha, here's hoping it's a sprint finish on Sunday then! (I'm hoping that anyway, I can't climb for love nor money!) - it'll be a good test of the bike if it is at least! 4

Cav wishes he could swear as well as me 3

Sorry for re-opening the old thread but I did promise! She arrived last night and oh my days is she a beautiful bike.

The frame I think is the supremo edition with full ultegra mechanical, first impression when lifting her out of the box was that she's incredibly light for a bike at that price point (~1.5k).

The carbon feels/sounds like a higher quality than that of my madone 4.7, certainly a thinner tubing.

Finish on the frame is impressive.

Ultegra stands up on it's own really, brilliant groupset. The supra wheels, as others have mentioned, are a little on the heavy side but the stock set that came with it have a slightly deeper rim, I might test these on the TT bike just to see if I get a faster roll on the flat than my lightweight alloys.

I've not taken her outside yet, I'll be getting a fit on Wednesday and then racing her at the weekend so I'll do a full review then.

Bottom bracket is bb86 and impressively chunky, as is the downtube OH and the chainstays, oh my god the chainstays, they are beautiful - they're HUGE. This looks like it's going to be a quick bike on both flats and hills. They've got an impressive balance in geometry.

I've read that even this range of frames uses the same carbon as their more expensive range, with carbon/SL finishing kit I would absolutely put this on a par with my other halfs s-works tarmac sl4 weight-wise and even stiffness-wise.

So far - stunning bike, highly impressed, sort of wish I'd held off on buying the trek but I'm lucky to be able to get to use this for this season!

Will post review next week ^_^

Thanks Miles, I went for a Sensa Romagna Special... As mentioned its my first road bike so can't give a comparative review, but I love it! Agree with wanting to upgrade, already found myself making eyes at various wheel sets...

It's very easy to do, but I think most people would suggest holding off until you have reached max ability on your current set. Then again...there's very few feelings as good as blowing money on something nice.

I am a road newbie and bought a Sensa bike after using a friends for a pretty tough ride around the Peak some months back. My budget wasn't grand (pardon the pun), so was made up when I found a bike with 105 group set and carbon forks for under 1k! Since taking ownership it's been a dream to ride, but I must qualify, apart from the odd go on a friends bike, my usual ride (commuting) is/was a hybrid. I'm still learning when it comes to things like upgrading components and I'm sure as time goes on I my want to change wheels etc, but for now I love taking my Sensa out for ride 3

Welcome to road riding! You will soon get into wanting to upgrade, almost as soon as you get comfortable on your bike. Which model Sensa did you go for?

Totally unrelated to the topic (sorry everyone) but do some replies on various threads on here get spambotted or something in terms of being 'liked'? I don't mean to be rude but 97 likes for a relatively banal reply to a non-controversial question...?! Doesn't matter I suppose, just wondering!

Well spotted.

That does seem rather odd doesn't it.

Brilliant, thanks. I was thinking of building a bike myself for the summer, getting to choose every single component being the main attraction of it, but that would be nowhere near the value for the monies. I'm kind of eyeing up the Toscana Custom now, as it looks both visually pretty and reasonably lightweight - for a price well below what my spec ended up with.

They are incredibly well priced considering what you get with them that's true. I was sort of wondering if they maybe had skimped on carbon quality/weight but that doesn't seem to be the case. Not too sure on the Toscana but certainly the Sensa apparently has fantastic tubing, nice big chunky bb area etc.

I think it's just a case of for once a well built bike hasn't been brandished with the pricetag of being from a well known manufacturer Which is really nice to see, prices be crazy these days! 1

I don't see a way to specify handlebar width with their custom bikes. I assume they will fit standard width, e.g. 42cm for a medium sized frame. Is that something Merlin / Sensa are happy to change?

I'd say so, (I've got very narrow shoulders and will be getting 38's through when the bike arrives) - although I can't see the option on the site.. If you fire off an email to Merlin they're pretty speedy for getting back on stuff like that. It'd probably be a case of ordering and then just confirming the finer details. 1

Update on Sensa! Mine's not arrived yet (hopefully this week maybe!) but saw some pics of my team-mate riding hers this weekend and, as a Madone owner my requirement for down-tube-girth is a great one, it looks like the Sensa will satisfy this requirement.

Impressive as normally I've found tubing on bikes at this price point a bit skimpy. My Kuota looks like a ragged prostitutes G-string in comparison - very much looking forward to trying a sprint on this!

Will let you know once arrived & ridden. 1

Seem to draw mixed opinions, Mekk is another brand I know little about, what blew you away about it? As for the supra wheels, are they particularly bad or jus not favourable in comparison.

The Mekks frame was lovely - light and looked really well made. The crank wasn't a well known brand but looked great and worked fine. The Headset and BB are quality. Hes just replaced the wheels after a 18 months and uses it in all weathers.

I'm intrigued with dura ace for sub 3000 quid. The only value I've seen to rival canyon ! Let us know how it performs

I'll be on one soon, will report back! It is insanely cheap, I thought my madone was mega value at 2k with ultegra... if this performs as well I'll be superpleased 1
