De Ver cycles BikeBuilder - Has anybody used it?

Hey there,

My brother is searching high and low for bike for anything up to £2000. I've come across what seems to be a hidden gem in custom bike builders De Ver Cycles and created a bike that fits his criteria.

Before I "Persuade" him to buy it, i wouldn't mind having a correct answer when he asks "is it legit?"

(The bike in question has the Deda SuperScuro Frameset and Ultegra Groupset, with Mavic Cosmic carbone SLS wheelset amongst many other decent components)

Thanks in advance! 1

De Ver Cycles is a great shop. I wish I lived local to it but sadly not.

I must pop back and have a look at their top notch bargains soon. Also I believe they have some sort of new fancy fitting system which measures your power output to get the right fit. Don't quote me on this I only heard from a friend of a friend. 17
Every bike purchase should come with a bike fitting service, wouldn't you agree ? 39

The only problem I have with it is that I need a taller head tube than the Deda offers. A big stack of spacers would just look wrong on that bike, and I don't see a suitable alternative (unless spending the big bucks) on the bike builder app.

An alternative config I came up with was:
Super Scuro RS
Campag Athena 11sp
3T finishing kit including the Integra stem to make your Garmin look sleek
Campag Zonda wheelset
Also £2k.

Actually, this brings to mind the recent debate about the retail price of bikes being more than the sum of their parts - this is the complete opposite.

Deda SuperScuro RC frame - £1799 at Chicken Cycles
Ultegra 6800 11 speed - let's assume (perhaps unfairly?) this is grey import stuff, so £600-ish from the likes of Merlin
Mavic carbone sls wheelset - £765 at Chain Reaction

That's £3165, before adding bars and tape, stem, saddle, tyres and tubes, so I reckon £3500 would be a reasonable total for self-build.

That is an absolute bargain.*

*Is it ok to turn up to the club run wearing 40mm Cosmic Carbones?! Seriously, I do wonder about this!

"Sorry, guys... these were the wheels that came with it."

I had a quick peek at the bike builder and that Deda build (with Ultegra 11sp and Cosmics) is an absolute bargain!

You're right - I got muddled up there, I know both shops, of course Wills as Shane is based mostly at the Manc velodrome.

De Ver recommendation still stands

That bike builder app gives you some nice options, tell him to go for it. Wish I knew about that last year!

De Ver is a proper and well respected shop run by a respected ex pro who is good mates with Bradley Wiggins, man and boy.

I believe Shane Sutton used to lodge in the flat above the shop too.

So it's 'real' alright.

Isn't that Wills Wheels on the A6 out of Manchester?
