I find the mapping / route planning features on ridewithgps to be far better than the equivalent on garmin or strava. The guys there do a great job, just a shame it doesn't have the same user base.
I had this problem with Garmin which lasted for about 2 weeks and it is now working for me
I encountered this a short time ago it was because on their "american" site some upgrading was going on, this was affecting me even though I was logged on with the garmin GB site but thankfully have not had any issues since.
One thing I would suggest is to give it some time between saving a route and uploading to device as the site isn't as good as they would like us to think.
And yes that letter/explaination was a bit off considering how much these things cost
I have had same thing when planning a new route. Has worked eventually but had to redo route several times. However, I found that if I started a route and saved it straight away after putting in one tiny bit of it, then opened it again to edit it, it then saves ok after you put the rest of the route in.
Let me know if that works for you.
Cheers
