Try http://bikehike.co.uk/index.php you get options to download to file or direct to gps and options on what type of file as well. OS window is usefull also.
Can't say that I've ever had that issue myself - sorry I know that's not any help!
Have you tried the Garmin forum - they're normally pretty good on there - it's not monitored by Garmin but the users are pretty knowledgable.
1. Create route.
2. Save to hard drive.
3. Plug in Edge.
3. Copy route to New Files folder on Edge.
4. Safely remove hardware before unplugging Edge.
I could be wrong, but I thought Edge 500 does not do .gpx, but only .fit. Perhaps you need the 800 to accomplish?
I normally save/downlaod new courses I make in BRT to my laptop first, and then drag them to the Newfiles folder of my Edge 500. Not had any issues so far.
Thanks for getting back to me. This morning I tried to upload a test route having deleted all my previous courses - http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=518272 = this also isnt working. I am creating a route, then going to the BRT summary tab and have tried to download to Garmin GPS just selecting the gpx option (I have tried with and without add course warnings selected). When selecting it asks me in the garmin communciator if I would like to "write course" but then unfortunately tells me "Your device does not support writing of the type GPSData".
I have a feeling I may be doing something wrong with creating the course - especially as I cannot get the gpx file to uplaod into Garmin connect.
Thanks
Sometimes a course in your device will corrupt all subsequent uploads. Try deleting (download them first) all the courses and routes you have, and then try again.
I use bike route toaster's download option to put routes directly onto my 800 and it works fine for me - can you describe what you're doing exactly and where it seems to go wrong?!
