Hope Hoops

Thinking of buying some Hope hoops. Does anyone know why they seem to differ slightly from retailer to retailer, I noticed that Wiggle say "Mavic Open Pro rim and Sapim Sprint spokes ...Weight: Rear 915g"

Whereas Chain Reaction say "Weight: 925g (rear)... DT Swiss double butted spokes".

Winstanleys are different again "Spokes: ACI Stainless Steel Double Butted...Weight: Rear 915g".

Are these just old descriptions or do retailers customise the wheels ? Should I really be bothered about different spokes?

Hope do both their own brand rim/hub combos as well as other brands' rims laced to their hubs. IIRC, Martyn Ashton was using some of their own brand Hope Hoops in his road bike vid.

There are slight differences between spoke brands, but most are the same, you get round, flat, aero....blah blah blah.

But from what you have listed, they sound similar.

I think its much and such building/pre built. Building yourself has the added bonus of picking the exact parts you want.

So getting the spec of hub, decent rim and any spokes. Plus the added bonus of lacing them up yourself and knowing no-one has exactly the same as you 26

I always thought it would be cheaper to buy factory built wheels rather than buying custom.

Aren't all spokes pretty much the same though?

Companies building them to different spec's it looks like to me.

They just mix and match hubs, spokes and rim's. If you are really that bothered about what you are buying, it would be cheaper to get the hubs, rims and spokes separate, lace it up and take it to a LBS to tension 3
