It's only a left shifter, just do it all in the big ring from now on
I'm not sure what still works, brake seems to work just shifting! May just put it on bing ring for the time being and wait till I can afford the shifter! Thanks for the help/advice guys
Does the brake still work? If so, just to get back on the road, you could try a downtube shifter, a la Lance Armstrong. Your LBS probably has some in a greasy cardboard box somewhere.
You could try posting a Wanted ad over at Bikeradar:

Otherwise keep checking the usual websites - CRC, Merlin, Ribble etc in case the single STI pops up in a sale. If you give up beer for a week that should save you a good chunk of the cost
Aah you see the trick to crashing your bike is to sacrifice yourself! Skin grows back, unfortunately bikes don't! Plus somehow it takes a little of the pain away when you inspect the bike to find that it's all ok!
I tried but we parted ways! The bike damage really is salt in the wound! Nothing else was damaged, just a scuffed pedal and rear skewer - nothing that can't be lived with! I'll continue my ebay search in the mean time...
