Road Peace

1 - Road traffic collisions are the leading cause of death among children and young people aged 5-29 years

- In the event of a crash - the higher the speed, the higher the injury severity

- The frequency of crashes increases with the speed of traffic

2 We're horrified by these reckless and flippant comments.

@BCPCouncil , please tell us how you will address this? This clip, with your branding on it, is highly damaging. Shockingly, @cllrDove is the chair of your Children's Services Committee

"She actually does say this. “I’ve seen children hit by a bus and they’ve bounced up and asked if they could have a milkshake please” "

BMW driver rammed cars on M3 to improve their driving

A driver who caused "pandemonium" on the M3, driving at up to 130mph and ramming cars out of the way, told police he was targeting people whose driving did not meet his expectations.

"I want to open up everyone’s eyes to keeping the outside lane clear. That is how I drive in a computer game.

The high-speed rampage only stopped when he collided with another vehicle near junction two for Winchester, causing it to spin around in the road.

But Bathurst-Shaw-Binning then got in another driver's car and told her to drive on, adding: "We need to go and see Charlie."

He then got out of the vehicle and was arrested whilst hiding in the undergrowth at the side of the motorway.

When interviewed he told police he had gone out to get cigarettes.

He was also disqualified from driving for 10 years with a further 40 months added on to take into account the time he will serve in custody.

Mitigating, Islam Khan said his client has "sincere remorse" and "now upon reflection sees the consequences of his actions".

Maybe whoever wrote the graffiti is calling for road tax to be reinstated so the pot holes can be repaired.

Gonna say it again, and I know it's only a handful of loudmouths, drivers styling themselves as victims is one of the most dangerous attitudes around.

Shocking moment Exeter van driver clashes with human bollards

Police say no offences were committed and described the incident as "a minor altercation"

https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/shocking-moment-exeter-van-dri...

It is worth repeating: why are the 'human bollards' described as protesters? There's a bus gate, and planters, and a traffic regulation order, all stopping through traffic there, so surely its people like the van driver in the clip who are the actual protesters??

I liked the wobble the Belisha post makes when Mr I'm Way Out of my Depth reverses into it.

Don't read the comments below the article as its full of thick racists.

Frankly, if you don't want to get fined for breaking the law, then....er....this is really hard to work out but i'll give it a go....DON'T BREAK THE LAW.

Parents of teenager who died in crash give plea for passengers to voice concerns with driver

They should also be concerned over the failure to drug test the driver for 12 hours! Surely it should be one of the first things they did?

Poor Policing. Poor lad didn't deserve to die at such a young age. And only 30 weeks: poor!

😡 a ban but really? Just tell them "that's enough, you're done with driving now, get a mobility vehicle / trike" for Pete's sake.

Yep saw it, and mentioned it earlier in the week, probably lost somewhere in the mess of threading.

They made a YouTube video about it https://youtu.be/TvfHouMZd8U?si=fegmQ13TZY2s9nQ2

My thoughts, it doesn't change how they treat close passes, this is just part of a two week national campaign against mobile phone use whilst driving https://www.norfolk.police.uk/news/norfolk/news/news/2024/february/norfo...

which is why i believe it has more than just the normal road team officers involved, once it ends its back to normal.

And Suffolk which uses the same road team officers, are supporting the same campaign, haven't reported anything like the same operation has been happening, even though they could literally park the bus in the bus lane outside their own HQ and still catch as many offences, if not more.

It does feel like there are issues around how the poor child was being supervised.  If she wandered out of the garden and sat down by the car for 10 minutes with no-one noticing, she could equally have wandered off quite a way in 10 minutes.

Should be banned for life and 6 years in prison is not enough for the lives ruined or to protect the public.

Yes, finally drivers acknowledging decades of subsidised freeloading and wanting to put their hands in their pockets to do something about it.

I've volunteered to lob in a fiver myself, but on condition that I get a signed undertaking from every driver that I'll get treated with respect on the road.

‘I do not think I have ever gone through a red light in my life.'

Er... but she had no idea she had gone through the red light in question, either.

Let's just hope she doesn't resume driving after her 12-month ban.

I have paid my £230 annual VED and that entitles me to drive EVERYWHERE at top speed.

That's the thing.  I read the headline and thought it was going to be that she'd wandered out onto the driveway as he was reversing, but no.  She wandered out and sat down for ten minutes before he reversed over her.

Article was unclear whether he was sitting in his car all that time or whether he came out of the house, got in it and then started driving.

Crane do make nice bells, I've put the E-NE Revolver on the commuter/shopper, loud enough and sounds like an old school bicycle bell.

Oh yes

Quote:

Gavin Bathurst-Shaw Binning described his actions as a "once in a lifetime" opportunity after he drove down the M3 during a drug and alcohol-fueled mission that saw him collide with nine other vehicles, causing one to spin around to face oncoming traffic.

Winchester Crown Court heard that having drunk alcohol and taken cocaine and cannabis, the now-46-year-old got in his BMW, despite efforts by his friends to stop him, and entered the M3 at Junction 10 at the M25.

Hmm.  Thanks.  I'm not sure that his friends tried hard enough…
