Storm Antoni: BMW driver's lucky escape after tree lands on car - Plymouth
Just an hour before the tree came crashing down the owner's young daughter had been sitting inside the vehicle
So on a day with a named storm blowing through, with parents claiming to have suspected this tree of being diseased, etc for years, he still parks downwind of it on their drive?
Beautiful Devon town rocked as it fears impact of controversial revamp
Devon’s highways chief, Cllr Stuart Hughes said the proposals would make Queen Street a “more attractive, accessible, inclusive place for visitors and locals alike." The leader of Teignbridge District Council, Cllr Martin Wrigley, acknowledged there is “some controversy” in Newton Abbot about the scheme, but said there is a “long history that shows pedestrianisation projects do improve the commerce in the street and the life of the street, and I think this is a change that needs to be done.”
Concerns though were raised by Cllr Janet Bradford, representing the South Devon Alliance. She said the view was that the changes would drive even more people to the out-of-town shopping centres, adding: “There’s absolutely no evidence that these plans will provide any benefit for either businesses or the users of Queen Street. But there is clear evidence in other towns that schemes to reduce convenient parking are very damaging.”

Patient left shocked over state of parking at Devon hospital
Ah, Bruce that's quite the roller-coaster ride you've taken me on there:

Drivers charged more for parking if they want to pay with cash
“There are hundreds of thousands of older people who depend on their cars but who don’t use computers. Hiking their parking costs is a disincentive to them getting out and about, and engaging fully in society.
“We know that councils are under huge financial pressure but we hope this one will reconsider its approach, which has the unfortunate effect of clobbering some older motorists more than everyone else.”

Drivers fined for ignoring traffic restrictions along B8008 Morar to Arisaig route in the Scottish Highlands
A Sky News reader, who is currently staying at one of the local campsites, said the double yellow lines are "doing absolutely nothing" to discourage drivers from parking on the verge at Traigh Beach.

tell me again about that badly parked e scooter
It's the road not the driver

"A man has identified an accident blackspot in Northern Ireland. He has sent the Department of Infrastructure a selection of clips showing vehicles crashing in the same place over the period of a month."
You really have to watch the video though.
Hell up in Penzance as car is driven down busy pavement backwards
The pavement rises a good four or five feet above the road below, making for quite an unusual sight

Cornwall Council blocks A30 'rat run' through village with concrete
The council said 'some motorists continued to ignore road closure signs and cones blocking the road, even getting out of their vehicles to move them as they try and avoid official diversion routes'

Tackling air pollution ‘could ease pressure on mental health services’
Another gift that keeps on giving.
The researchers said: “Based on the evidence presented, we contend that air pollution could be considered an important population-level target to reduce mental health service use in people with dementia, particularly for those with vascular dementia.”

It seems perfectly obvious that the driver's view of the 60 foot tall tree would've been almost totally obscured by the small bush in the foreground and therefore no further action should be taken.
1800 ? They measured 10,000 in a week on a suburban residential road in Ipswich, one of the below the line commentators claimed it was "anti car" to highlight that kind of speeding, especially as no one got killed.

I love this comment.
Someone on Twitter X pointed out the large number (42,000 I think) of people living within a one mile radius of the site.
You want to laugh, but that's actually an interesting one given the law in Wales regarding bilingual signage...
I'm dreading the inevitable onslaught of adverts that will follow, but I can't resist watching this one...
Reaction
(edit to get the posts in the right order)
I thought it was four black Audis working to keep a stereotype alive, but I see now that one is a black VW.
"Hey guys, want to go to the beach? Why don't the four of us all drive separately?"
Have they been washed there by floodwater?
A perfek emblem of The Toryspiv - amoral and stuffed i' the big hugly heed with the notion that there's one law for the serfs and another for the aristocrats such as hisself. (Or, rather, no law at all).
I'm surprised he resigned, when found out, rather than making howls & barks about his freedumbs. But perhaps the local Toryspivs have not yet devolved into the fullblown Boris Bokum mode?
You were right, I did. And again. And again.
The man is right. It won't be popular here but this really is one of those cases where the road is going too slow for the drivers.
Market Jew Street?
The tree should have moved to one side to let the driver go past
The driver is said to be pretty binned-off by the whole episode.
I can't find it on Twitter?
0 likes - oh, come on - I had to sit though 10 minutes of Love Island to acquire that expression.

Joy almost unconfined- the only bad part is that the sea didn't sort the b******s out. Not as good as Rufford Ford where gratification is almost immediate.
Not quite sure what you want to laugh about? The second part of your comment suggests that you were close to appreciating that the case, which has now been dismissed again, was nothing to do with 'Drivers and their problems'
Hmmm, I guess it's possible. It does look a bit like 中国.
A corruption of "Thursday market" in Cornish, apparently
