Well done Tony, good win...and by a distance.
Agreed, very solid performance
Missed the Pogacar announcement until now. Big hole in my team.
Same here 🤦♂️
Bummer. I have pretty missed all the COVID withdrawals but saw this one with 00 minutes left...managed to just swap the Pog out, would have liked to have changed team around a bit but won't complain too much!
Literally five minutes to go for me. Unbelievably lucky as I just checked for god knows what random reason sat in the traffic this morning. I wanted Schachmann but just had to do the easiest I could. That's must be the first time I've ever checked in the car in a morning as far as I can remember.
Worse...I think Papitagem might have taken out Roglic by mistake instead of Pogacar. He made a second set of transfer taking out Roglic and replacing him with Alaphilippe who he'd already taken out for Pogacar.
I can't work that out really...other than a mistake.
Ouch, that is going to hurt. Could have been worse if Roglic did not start his sprint from halfway up the Mur! But have to give credit to Alaphilippe, fantastic ride...
Could have been worse. I did manage 1,2,3,4 and 6.
With Pogacar and two balancing 3.0s scoring nothing. Although I am not sure why I took out Hermans who would have scored.
Many will have had my scoring riders though.
I think I used up everyone's luck today. Last minute panic to remove Pog which also allowed me to upgrade my 3 mill wildcards. Went Barguil (because he always goes well up that hill), Gaudu and Vansevenant. Have had worse days!
You did well because he's entirely unreliable as a pick...nice.
Because it was a last minute change, I didn't have time to fester over it. Given more time I would probably have talked myself out of it!
I'm away on holiday right now, but still got the start list done last night and saw the announcement with 15 mins to go this morning. I'm on a laptop so doing changes is a ball ache, stupid track pad, but I removed UAE as fast as I could.
Andy, no criticism of you intended. I just didn't look this morning at anything (websites, Social Media) or I might have picked it up.
You do a good job with startlists and it is possible for all of us to check other sources in the rare event that it is not 100% accurate.
Enjoy your holiday!
Cheers man, didn't take it as criticism, no worries. I think it was fortunate some people got a little bit of warning and from the sounds of it the tests were false positives and UAE aren't happy.
Well that didn't go to plan. Too many eggs in the Roglic basket.
I just felt I couldn't leave Roglic out and had to use the bargain bin to fill the last places. Did OK in that everyone scored points ..........just not very many apart from the top two. Need to keep an eye on some new kid on the block called 'Mountain Renegade'. He's very quietly moving through the gears!
same here, I have excellent form at picking riders in the classics that either crash, puncture or get COVID...
Aye. Just how it is. It was quite nicely balanced for Roglic and a cheapie vs two 20 mill(ish) picks. I see plenty went for the latter. I 'm quite sure we'd have seen a very different race had he continued, he was already very active. Do you think he was riding for WVA?...he did a lot of pulling before his puncture...
Amstel Gold is a weird race to call. The cobblestone guys are at the end of their block ( and some are only racing because Paris-Roubaix was postponed) while the Ardennes specialists are on an upward curve. Throw in a new, Covid compliant, lap circuit and it becomes very hard to predict. Usually it's just DQS who have multiple options but there are plenty of really strong line ups here. Picking a team looks to be a lottery as per usual!
It will indeed. A few riders always try to finish as high as possible even when the race is lost....some just give up. I think I may pick accordingly.
That is a very good point. It's similar to finding the sprinters who still go for the 'win' behind a breakaway - can be worth a lot of points.
Big crash...Senechal down, and looked somewhat damaged.
GOT THE TOP 2 AND THAT'S IT
Everyone will have those two.
roll on the Giro!
I think it's fair to say most of us went along with the bookies. My dither was getting rid of Sénéchal, or not, because I felt the hills gave QST better options....in the end I stayed safe.
Aaaargh - missed the deadline - no starters...
No Demare!
oh thats just wonderful, should have checked sooner!
No Bouhanni eiter.
I am two riders down now.
So who wins the infamous sprint down Crash Alley?
