Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

Autumn gives the best riding of the year.
Any targets or aims are usually completed by now, so it's time to take the foot off the gas a little and enjoy some more relaxed riding. However, for a few precious weeks this is coupled with the left over fitness from summer.
Add to this the cooler temps and lower sun and Autumn really is the 'golden' time of year to ride.
The best thing about riding in autumn is the one amazing day of light winds, crisp air and melancholic sunlight you get for every 20 days of riding in a leaf-strewn apocalypse.
The thinking of fitting mudguards, deciding against it and coming home with a fetching badger stripe on the back and smudged freckles on the front. And cake stops in warm cafes with misty windows
Stopping to pick apples and blackberries.
Riding in the autumn when the weather changes makes me feel a bit smug, I've had the balls to get out there and take on the elements!
Quiet roads, and breaking out the warmer kit (hint: I'd like some new warmer kit, thanks)
The right cloths means the summer rides never end
Chill over Beachy Head, tempered by the sun
Riding in (to work) yesterday started with long shadows and spots of brilliant sunshine through the lanes near Houghton le Spring, followed by a wall of thick fog through Birtley (very atmospheric, 50' visibility, dew collecting on my bike and clothing), which lasted until Gateshead before popping out into brilliant sunshine as I approached Newcastle. Combined with the season of sunrises and sunsets during my daily commute, what other season gives such brilliant variation for each and every ride, love it!
Easy it makes us all bad arses #9
need the first frost for some fungi to appear, although not around the chain or gears
those squeaky Bum moments as you go under a conker tree
Crisp, bright mornings. Heading out on a Sunday morning for a few hours to offset the stews, pies and crumbles.
Radiator warmed bib shorts and socks
Crisp fresh air and colourful scenery
Dodging conkers!
I can ride harder without getting hotter !!!
Not know which bike or clothes to wear in the mornings, always good to wake up to a surprise!
Vulpine, be mine!
no wasps!
Favourite thing about cycling in Autumn?
The constant excitement of never knowing when, where or if I'm going to get a puncture on the way to, or home from work because of all the leaves hiding sharp stuff!
...and wondering if I replaced the spare inner tube in my rucksack for when the inevitible happens!
Seeing the sunrise on my morning commute. That's all I need to make it worthwhile.
The splendour of riding through the falling leaves in fading autumnal sunshine.
I like cycling in the dry cold - get the heart going and warm up.
Autumn....that'll find me getting a little colder, a little wetter and a little slower.....but change is good......kit up and ride into it!
Hill climb season!
What I love most are those mornings when the mist hangs in the fields and the deer and bunnies frolic while I ride by (dawn coming that much later in the day).
What I don't like is how cold I get when I'm caught in the rain when riding to work - so please send me some of that brilliant Vulpine gear.
The best thing about Autumn cycling is that added mental challenge when the weather is whispering "don't bother, you don't want this". All you can do is prove it wrong!
Yeah Autumn is ok when the sun is out I like it when the leaves are changing colour and it's time to don the over shoes and savour the friendly group rides to a cafe stop.
But it's bloody awful at the moment when it's cold grey and wet. Mind you putting on some Vulpine clothing might make even this fair-weather cyclist tempted to try a ride in the not so glorious Autumn weather.
Ps can you get Wahoo to do a similar competition for their kickr trainer
Yes Please, best thing about autumn is the weather is so bad no one else is out to see how badly i ride.... or to hear how much i swear when fixing punctures.
