Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

Drifting the back wheel in the leaves on crisp, cold and bright mornings
Riding out early into a stiff headwind, knowing that it will be at your back as you tool it home running on all cylinders.

The formatting didn't work on my first post - please ignore it - looked like I had lost my head!!
Nobody has to look at my legs in Autumn. They're covered up, which is a good thing for everyone.
Watching the red kites overhead takes away the chill of the autumn mornings.
It's Rule 9 wry smile weather - always a risk of getting wet but who cares, when later the autumn sun will come out. (hopefully when you've just arrived at a bike cafe)
The best thing about autumn cycling is walking out of the front door into the crisp air and spending the rest of your ride storming through piles of leaves like a big kid.
Crisp mornings with no frost, tail wind on the way back home, smell of bonfires and the colour of the trees all make autumn a great time to cycle.
Coffee and cake... the same as cycling any other time of the year really.
It's cold, dark, wet and character building.
My favourite thing about the autumn is the fact that the fair weather cyclists pack up and put their feet up for the winter, leaving the roads free to the real hard men of cycling... those who hammer the pedals day in, day out... what ever the weather... "Rule #5"
oh... and the changing colour of the leaves is really pretty...
Mists and mellow fruitfulness.
Crunchy, dead leaves; slippery, wet leaves; wet drain and manhole covers; clear and crispy mornings; seeing my breath at traffic lights; steamed-up sunglasses; rosy cheeks; and any excuse for cake.
Crisp, clear mornings!
other men commenting on the size of my mud flap
Rain in the face, and the sun rising.
Lidl gear can only get you so far..
No thanks.... ;@)
The best thing about cycling in Autumn is that I can get my monies worth out of the expensive leg and arm warmers that have been at the back of my cycling drawer all summer!
I love the dry crisp autumn mornings best, when you can see the effort you've put in by the breath output and steam rising from your tired heap of a body...and that nice warming shower after a good lengthy cycle....
It's warmer than winter.
Bright sunshine, good visibility to enjoy the autumnal colours, the cold but clothing choice that works, lighter traffic, and then the coffee stop - log burner in the corner and a toasted teacake with butter.
Cycling in the autumn is great! The temperatures are near perfect Plus, I get to don all my snazzy autumn/winter gear that I've been buying in the sales for the past few months. Oh, and Merino socks <3
I love the smell of the colours.
Why? What's not to like:
Where darkness slowly creeps and shadows softly sleep,
Garmins bleep, legs creak and wheels whirr.
Where morning kindly glows, and drifting mist burns slow,
leaves burn gold, legs roar and spirits soar.
Where hills begin to climb and cadence drops,
hearts pop and shut up legs, shut up legs, shut up legs.
Moar skidz
An excuse to try Cyclocross for the first time this year (and buy a CX bike of course)
