Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

Thrown into darkness again, you have to be sharper. The memory banks kick in guiding you around all those potholes, grooves and other objects you've mapped without realising during the daylight hours. And yes I can clip in without looking.
The cooler, crisper air - love it
The silent freehub of my Shimano winter wheels makes a welcome change from the buzz of the summer hubs as I descend a damp and leaf strewn hill. Unfortunately it allows me to hear my heart pounding as I wonder if the pilot can hold it!
The sound of autumn leaves being whipped up off the road by a breeze.
I like riding over the crunchy acorn and beech nut shells and other tree debris that lines country lanes.
Seeing the v formations of geese flying in for over-wintering as I ride in the lanes
Knowing that I'm still out there enjoying it. Especially on the commute when I think of other people stuck in stuffy trains and cars.
It has to be the tail winds (not the headwinds) and the warm cafe stops afterwards.
Looking down from the hills into mist-shrouded valleys
The thing I love best about cycling in the autumn is seeing the changing colours of the season and feeling the fresh brisk air on my skin making me need to work that little bit harder to stay warm
The relief that I'm no longer dripping with sweat at the end of my commute. Unfortunately, my joy is tempered somewhat by the fact that my nose starts dripping instead.
Winning the battle of the elements because I'm wearing the right kit!
I like the crisp morning starts, the sunrise turning a cold start into a pleasant day. but the best is the fair weather cyclists delay their journeys so the roads are all yours!
Less sun in my eyes!
Autumn riding......the same as winter, spring and summer riding in Scotland. I might put on a base layer http://road.cc/sites/all/modules/smileys/packs/Yahoo!/wink.gif
The cool crisp autumn mornings, clear and sunny with frost on the ground and a little bit of low level mist. Seeing your breath as you cycle, but feeling warm and cosy in my cold weather gear
Freedom of not-racing while being still strong enough to ride everywhere I want, as fast as I want
A hot chocolate with a shot of brandy becomes a legitimate choice of beverage to consume on your return home
The best thing about autumn cycling is that it's not winter cycling just yet...
Love riding on a crisp clear day!
Awesome autumn sunrises
Getting my fancy lights out!
I love rides starting cold and dark having dressed for the majority of the ride in the brilliant warming sun that you are preying will arrive soon.
Cycling without the heat of summer, being able to go back to my Adamo Typhoon (ISM) saddle from my Brooks as I am not sweating like a horse!! And all that implies for the nether regions!!
For me, it's those cold, dry crisp mornings that sting your lungs and remind you you're alive!
Epic accidental skids over all the leaf mulch, its where you discover how well you can really keep your balance.
I love the winter! There's no better day than a fresh chill in the air and brilliant sunshine. Taking the bike out in that is what reminds you you're alive. Bring it on!
I enjoy the adrenaline rush of impending doom from cornering hard on a leaf-strewn pathway. Nothing gets your heart rate up like a sudden rear wheel skid at 32 km/h.
No more club 10s and the chain gangs are slower !
Autumn's morning mist and milky sunlight.
