Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

The hot shower back home
The best thing about autumn rides is the sound, there's a tiny bit of water on the road and in the trees, makes the breeze sound more epic and seems to make the sound of far away traffic that bit more pleasant.
That and getting to wear some more substantial clothes and not need suncream.
I enjoy the cooler, crisper weather of autumn with its clear, bright mornings.
The rain, however, can do one!
Any riding outside is still better than the turbo trainer!
It's the autumn rain that does it for me, it's not quite cold enough to chill you to the marrow but often wild enough to make the most mundane journey one to remember.
An excuse to buy a new jacket! And the shower afterwards!

Because, Outside if free!
riding in the bad weather is somewhat compensated by the fact that you know you are probably damaging the drivetrain ....but this means you might soon have a legitimate reason to start looking for a new bike
breaking out the kit you haven't worn since March.
And the ability to say "it's cold and raining, I don't fancy it much today"
I really love how a piece of chestnut shrapnel gets jammed in your newly annointed mudguards. How it jams up the wheel and skids out beneath you. How it catapults you over the bars into a heap *just* adjacent to a soft landing pad of leaves. How it leaves your shorts scuffed and an inexplicably mahoosive red graze across your summer-sized, rapidly shrinking thigh muscle tone. And how I don't care if I have seven mars bars just to punish the Gods of the Seasons but, through tear-blown eyes, I see that it is still a really nice day.
Being able to wear my new Vulpine Autumn clothing bundle.
There is nothing better than dappled sunshine bringing out the colours of the fallen leaves on a dry, still autumn day. It smells nice too! It's also a weather season to kick back after the summer efforts and just enjoy being on a bike.
Roads where I live in Cornwall are quieter and those cafe stops are more peaceful and a chance to wrap up against the elements on your bike is the best feeling.

just riding!
I like having the opportunity to use all the expensive kit you buy through the year. Going out in the sun with just a pair of shorts and a lightweight jersey is nice. But oh boy, as soon as the weather starts to turn you can break out the baselayer, wool jersey, arm warmers, windproof cape, thermo bibshorts, leg warmers, thick socks, oversocks, full finger gloves, neck buff, Belgian hat. And then when it begins to rain you get to put on even more stuff. How brilliant is that?
I don't have to shave my legs!
Freebies - don't we love them
I love the fact that the temperature is a bit lower so I don't sweat as much! Also the roads are more empty..
got to love a bit of rain............
Wow!! Nice stuff. Would be great now on my daily commute to work and the sunday rides with the bike club when the weather gets foul. It has a tendency to be so this time of year in Sweden...
Autumn -> big puddles to ride through & splash people
Feet-up free-wheeling through puddles and an excuse for a pre-winter fire to dry off and warm up
Riding across the Clifton Suspension Bridge just after dawn and seeing the mist funnel down the gorge below, obscuring the road. With the orange to deep-blue fade of the sky it feels like you're in riding in space!
It's great to be out on a bike in all weather apart from snow and ice. And there is no snow and ice in the Autumn.
Riding down dark wooded lanes on a Sunday morning, worrying about running over hedgehogs (punctures...), and getting startled by a cold wet leaf falling on my arm. Good times.
Crisp sunny mornings and the changing fall foliage.
