Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

A nice crisp and fresh evening
Mist inversions in the valleys, with Heptonstall Church and Stoodley Pike rising majestically from the fog as you climb up to Blackshaw Head.
Hitting the empty, traffic-free, dark streets at 5am for a peaceful ride before the sun comes up to give way to a crisp, bright, busy London morning. Wrapped up good and warm in winter gear with the cold wind against my face. It's the best way to watch the leaves change day by day. It's the best way to ride my bike.
The surprise on the faces of motorists as you ride passed them in the pouring rain and you still have a smile on your face.
Some nice pub wear please.
After this weekend I realize how much is missing from my wardrobe.......
Oooh. I'll throw my casquette in the ring.
Reddish leaves!
Cold, crisp mornings, sunrise and misty Edinburgh. I love the smell of autumn!
The Indian takeaway afterwards...
Riding to work waiting for the sun to come up and playing the "how many layers do I need today" lottery on a daily basis!
Crisp, clear air and colour everywhere.
And drivers who can't see you because their windows have fogged up or they haven't scraped the frost off.........
Sharing a smile and nod with other cyclists commuting to work in the rain.
Putting on the snug cool weather cycling gear. As much as I love summer cycling there is something comforting about long sleeve tops, woolie boolie socks and bib knickers...
Will never be that coordinated on my own
Leaving home in the dark and being on the bike as the sun rises to burn the mist away.
Changing colours on every ride keep familiar routes interesting.
Autumn offers the best of both worlds, not too hot, not too cold. And if you layer properly you can prepare for all conditions. The best bit of course is that when you have finished if its on the chilly side you are cold enough to feel the benefits of a nice warm bath.
Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh
Cooler weather, vivid colours and the chance to try out my new autumn/winter clothing after losing weight through the summer....The business
Yes please
Riding with the sun on my back, but not getting too hot on the way to work.
Autumn wardrobe sorted - yes please.
Waking up to commute to work and realising that it's neither raining or exretemly windy for my ride.
Means I can cover up and spare the rest of the world from seeing my legs.
The beads of water in my beard after a few miles riding in the cold...
Riding in the crisp air, full sun, merino base layers on, imagining for a few moments that I'm actually riding in Il Lombardia, and not just on my way to a distant tea shop for refuelling.
It means i can put away my hairy legs underneath tights and hide my fat belly underneath a jacket.
Autumn - favorable temperatures, beautiful colours on the trees, glorious sun rises and sun sets and slightly slippery under wheels all lend themselves to enjoyable, long hours in the saddle. Get up early to enjoy the glorious sunrises or sunsets and the smells of nature at their best.
Autumn also means the annual struggle with full length mudguards and the enjoyable challenge of fitting them with no rubbing on tyres. Bliss in every way.
It means we get to wear clothes more interesting than just jerseys and shorts!
